What: A recorded video explaining and demonstrating the Assistive Technology (AT) included in the ICIE Center's Secondary and Post-Secondary Academic AT Kit for Reading and Writing Support. In the video, ICIE Center AT staff discuss and demonstrate each tool in the kit and explain how to check out the kit from the lending library. The video highlights AT tools commonly used by students to access text, organize ideas, and complete written assignments more independently.

How it helps: This video helps viewers better understand how assistive technology can reduce barriers to reading and writing. These tools can support students in school, training programs, and employment preparation by increasing access to information. The video shows how technology can be matched to individual needs.

How to use it: Educators and service providers can use the video as part of training, team meetings, or transition planning discussions. Families and youth can watch the video together to learn about technology options and start conversations about accommodations and supports. Transition teams can use the examples to explore tools that may be included in IPEs, IPE, or college disability support plans.

Good for: Youth, families, educators, and teams who want to learn more about Assistive Technology that can be used in secondary and post-secondary settings to reduce barriers and increase access.

Access the video at idahotc.com/Resources/View/RID/1440 on the ICIE webpage, Idahotc.com/ICIE

IPUL’s CANS Core Concepts series continues this week with a reminder that the CANS is designed to help Child and Family Teams determine the right level of care for a child.

Information from the Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) tool helps providers and systems understand what level of support may be appropriate. This can include outpatient therapy, skill-building services, family support, crisis services, or other behavioral health interventions. The goal is to match services to actual needs.

To learn more about the CANS and to read the Youth Empowerment Services Practice Manual, visit the YES website at https://yes.idaho.gov/

Podcasts have become one of the most powerful communication tools for young people – and it’s no mystery why. Unlike traditional media, podcasts feel like a real conversation. There’s no script-polished anchor reading from a teleprompter, no perfectly lit studio set designed to impress. It’s voices, stories, and honesty – the kind of exchange that is like catching up with a friend.

💚 You Belong in This Story 💚

This spring, youth mental health awareness was at the heart of IPUL's sticker campaign. Through the theme "You Belong in This Story," we invited youth to share messages of hope, connection, and belonging.

THANK YOU to everyone who engaged with our resources, attended events, shared our message, and helped reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. Every conversation, every act of support, and every voice matters.

While we did not receive enough entries to hold a formal contest, we were excited to receive artwork from a young advocate, Isabel, whose design beautifully reflects the spirit of this campaign. Their creativity serves as a reminder that each of us has a place in this story and that our voices can make a difference.

If you missed it this year, we eagerly await your child’s sticker design next year! We're off to turn this design into a sticker that you just might see around the community.

Some students with disabilities rely on assistive technology to learn, and they worry it could be swept up in the movement to get screens out of schools.

The Youth Empowerment Services (YES) Interagency Governance Team (IGT) is looking for a parent representative from North Idaho to help guide and strengthen Idaho's children's behavioral health system.

The IGT brings together families, youth, advocates, providers, and state partners to identify barriers, improve services, and ensure family voices are included in decision-making across the YES System of Care. Parents are a required and valued part of the team, helping shape recommendations and support meaningful partnerships between families and systems.

You may be a great fit if you have:
• Parented a child with behavioral health needs within the last 10 years
• A child currently receiving behavioral health supports or services
• A desire to help improve systems for Idaho families

You don't need to know everything about policy or state systems. Your lived experience is the expertise we're looking for!

📩 Reach out to Allison, Health Director for IPUL at [email protected] She'd love to talk through the opportunity and help you decide if it feels like a good fit.

IPUL’s CANS Core Concepts series continues this week with a reminder that ratings are NOT judgements.

The Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) tool ratings are used to identify areas where support or action may be needed. A higher rating simply means that a need may require immediate attention or intervention. It is not a judgment about the child, youth, or family.
