Jakeilei Echevarria, R.T.(R), is a Radiologic Technologist at Saint Alphonsus and a graduate of Lewis-Clark State College. She started with SAHS as a PRN student tech for almost a year and has now been on as a registered tech for a few months.

"What initially drew me to Saint Al's was the generosity and kindness of the staff," Jakeilei says. "From my first days, everyone was welcoming and willing to step in and help whenever I needed it." That same kindness is what keeps her here. "Every morning I'm greeted with smiles and friendly gestures from different people each day. It's a place where people genuinely care about each other."

She describes the culture as welcoming and team oriented, where staff step outside their own roles to help each other, whether that's answering questions, jumping in during a busy shift, or orienting someone new.

To rad tech students considering Saint Al's, she says it's a place to build real confidence. "This hospital challenges and pushes healthcare workers to be their best selves. It teaches us to only give the best care and take the best images possible." She credits the experienced techs around her for wanting to see students succeed and teaching them the fundamentals the right way.

What sets Saint Al's apart, in her eyes, is the patience and compassion shown by every staff member. "Everyone is willing to take the time to explain things, offer guidance, and provide support when needed."

Outside of work, Jakeilei enjoys reading, hiking, and crafts.

Alyssa Messina first joined Saint Alphonsus in 2011, back when several of her family members already worked here. In 2021 she stepped away to stay home with her kids, and this past April, she came back.

"Now that I've been here almost 15 years, I would never work anywhere else," Alyssa says. "Saint Alphonsus is so welcoming, the work environment is inviting, and every colleague I've come across always seems to have a smile on their face."

Alyssa works in the Family Maternity Center, in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum. Not long ago, she cared for a first-time mom who was nervous about everything, unsure what was right or wrong when it came to her new baby. Alyssa took the time to sit with her, answer her questions, and reassure her that she was doing just fine. Before the mom went home, she turned to Alyssa and said, "I don't know if I could have gotten through these last two days without you."

"That right there made everything worth it," Alyssa says.

She describes the culture at SAHS simply: "It's like one big family. We're all in it together, and there's not one person who is better than the other."

When she's not at the hospital, Alyssa and her husband run the Idaho Reptile Zoo, so her free time usually involves alligators instead of downtime, plus the occasional trip to Florida for conservation work.
