Honoring Sophie Huffman at last month's School of Nursing Preceptor Appreciation Dinner 💙

This annual event celebrates the preceptors who play a critical role in preparing Boise State nursing students, and Sophie brings that role to life every day.
In Idaho’s only Neuro Surgical Trauma ICU, she models strong clinical skills while creating a culture of teamwork, respect, and encouragement. She supports her students through both everyday learning and some of the most difficult moments they experience in clinical care. Sophie teaches more than technical skills. She shows students how to communicate, advocate for patients, and lead with compassion.

“She is shaping not just competent nurses, but compassionate ones.”

This event honors the nurses who spend countless hours guiding Boise State students in real clinical settings, and Alfredo is a standout example of that commitment. From patiently teaching skills like IV starts and charting to picking up extra shifts so his student could meet clinical hours, Alfredo goes above and beyond to support learning.

He builds confidence, encourages growth, and advocates for his students when they need it most. He also leads with kindness, treating every person he works with, from patients to colleagues, with respect and care.

Working in Transport and Equipment for over 3 years, Carter found his way to Saint Al’s while studying at Boise State 🧡💙
