Should you be using mouth tape? 👄 An expert opinion.

If you're already breathing through your nose at night, you probably don't need it!

Mouth taping may be helpful for some people, but it often fails to address why you're mouth breathing in the first place.

Working with an orofacial myofunctional therapist can help you improve tongue resting posture, lip seal, and healthy oral habits for long-term results.

Sure, it's not as trendy as sticking a Band-Aid on your face, but getting to the root of the problem is worth it. 😉

⚠️ Mouth taping isn't safe for everyone, especially if you have nasal obstruction or sleep-disordered breathing. It's important to address those concerns first.

Curious about your tongue posture or nighttime breathing? Our team at the Center for Orofacial Myology can help!

Welcome, Taylor!

We’re so excited to introduce the newest member of the Center for Orofacial Myology team.

Taylor is joining us as our Occupational Therapist and brings wonderful expertise in Feeding. She’ll be working with our sensory kiddos and feeding clients ages 4 and up, and will expand into orofacial myofunctional therapy.

We’re especially looking forward to the collaboration she’ll create across OT, feeding, sensory, speech, and myofunctional therapy, helping us create holistic support and provide even more comprehensive care for the families we serve.

Welcome to the team, Taylor! We’re thrilled to have you. 💙

Your Nose: Part 2
This time our clinician takes us inside your nose. Here’s what she shows us:

Turbinates – those shelf-like structures that swirl, warm, and humidify the air as it moves through.
Lysosomes – tiny cellular powerhouses that help break down and clear out invaders.
The little hairs (cilia & vibrissae) – your built-in broom and filter system that trap dust, pollen, and debris, then sweep them out.

Your nose isn’t just a passageway. It’s a high-tech filtration and conditioning system.
Breathe through it. It’s doing the work for a reason. 👃

Stop mewing and start working with a professional!

One of our clinicians breaks down looksmaxxing and the risks of mewing.

Looksmaxxing is the online trend of trying to maximize physical appearance through everything from skincare and the gym to more extreme approaches.

Mewing is one of the popular techniques within it. It involves pressing the tongue hard against the roof of the mouth in hopes of changing the jawline and facial structure.

Our clinician explains that while resting the tongue on the palate is a normal, healthy posture, the forceful version of mewing promoted online can cause real problems.

It can lead to:

• TMJ pain and jaw tension

• Teeth shifting or becoming misaligned

• Bite problems

• Speech difficulties

There is no solid scientific evidence that mewing reshapes the adult face the way social media claims. The pressure is often uneven and uncontrolled, which is why orthodontists and dental specialists warn against it.

If you are concerned with your facial features, a myofunctional therapist like the ones at our clinic can help. Guided therapy focuses on proper tongue posture, muscle function, and oral habits in a safe, structured way.

Questions? Reach out. We’re here to help.

What Your Nose Knows
Your nose is way more than just the thing that helps you smell. Here’s why it’s a total powerhouse:

- Detects odors so you can decide if food is good… or bad.
- Humidifies and warms the air before it hits your lungs.
- Filters out bacteria and other stuff you don’t want inside.

This is why breathing through your nose (not your mouth) actually matters.
Your nose knows best. Breathe smart. 👃
