Nearly 30 years ago, a dedicated midwife opened a small home birth practice called Treasure Valley Midwives. She cultivated relationships, cared deeply for families, and mentored many other midwives along the way.
Bri and Laurie were two of the midwives who were mentored by that incredibly dedicated midwife (Hi, Paula!) right within the walls of the current TVM location. When Paula decided to retire, she knew exactly who would best carry on the legacy of Treasure Valley Midwives. This week, during National Midwifery Week, we celebrate Bri and Laurie’s FIVE year anniversary of ownership at TVM.
In those five years, the demand for midwifery care has surged, and the challenges of providing care in a health care desert have become increasingly apparent. Despite the challenges, these two women have stood strong and confident. Laurie and Bri have continued to put their love and devotion into TVM by cultivating relationships with hospital providers and colleagues, building an incredible team of employees, and earning the trust of the clients we are privileged to serve.
They have worked tirelessly to create an environment that is joyful to work in while also offering something that can be incredibly difficult to find in midwifery: work-life balance. If you know midwifery, you know just how hard that is to achieve!
In the past five years, this incredible team has supported nearly 1,000 families in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and throughout the reproductive process. Among the many families cared for and loved by our midwives are SEVEN babies born to TVM staff members!
They have also poured their hearts into transforming our space and making the most of every square foot to meet the needs of our growing community. We added an entire new clinic room downstairs, revamped our common space upstairs to accommodate larger groups, and fully transformed the “Moon Room” birth suite.
And then there’s the work that happens behind the scenes - the work that most people never see. Things like advocacy, legislative work, educating students, and committee sessions. Most recently, Laurie was an integral part of legislative changes that will support all Idaho midwives to better care for families across the state.
The traditional five-year anniversary gift is wood. Wood symbolizes the strong, deep roots and enduring strength of a relationship that has grown over its first five years.
We find this to be perfectly fitting.
Over these first five years of ownership, Bri and Laurie have given Treasure Valley Midwives strong, deep roots in our community and an enduring strength to continue growing, serving, and becoming the best TVM can possibly be.
