More than 60 kindergarteners from Rock Creek Elementary visited St. Luke's Magic Valley for a special day in May, learning about hospital care through hands-on stations with cuddly teddy bears in hand!

Now in its third year, the annual Teddy Bear Clinic is designed to help children feel more comfortable with healthcare settings by using simple, age-appropriate language and interactive, hands-on activities to introduce medical concepts in a friendly and reassuring way. They do this by incorporating medical play, which is one way to help calm their fears about going to the hospital or visiting a doctor.

Each student received a new teddy bear and traveled from station to station learning from nurses and other St. Luke’s care team members about bandaging their bears, taking vital signs, medical imaging and more. The kids even got to practice giving CPR to their teddy bears in an ambulance!

🦸‍♀️💥 Superpowered by Community💥🦸‍♂️

More than 1,000 heroes gathered for a night of fun, inspiration, and philanthropy at Kid For A Night Superpowered on June 5. From rock climbing and obstacle courses to face painting, our patient art gallery, and an exciting live auction, the evening brought our community together and helped raise over $1 million for St. Luke's Children's, a new event milestone!

Amid all the fun and festivities, one of the evening’s most powerful reminders of why we gather each year came from Violet Thompson and her family. Their story highlighted the strength and resilience of the children and families we serve, as well as the lifesaving care available right here at St. Luke's Children's. If you missed the video during the event, or would like to watch Violet's story again, please visit the link here: https://youtu.be/dmz2BUvSlI8

Thank you to every sponsor, donor, volunteer, bidder, and guest who made this evening possible. The funds raised will help ensure more children can receive specialized pediatric care close to home, allowing families to stay closer to what matters most, right here in Idaho. ❤️

What should you do if a child swallows a button battery?

DO: If you see a child swallow (or even suspect a child has swallowed) a button battery, even if there are no symptoms, seek medical attention immediately.

DO: If a child suddenly shows signs of having swallowed a button battery — coughing, drooling, trouble swallowing and fever — seek medical attention
immediately.

DO: For a child older than 1 year, give 2 teaspoons of honey if you have it, but don’t delay medical attention for it.

At just 7 years old, Violet faced a life-threatening battle with leukemia and severe complications that led to multiple medical emergencies, including four cardiac arrests. Thanks to the extraordinary care of St. Luke’s Children’s multidisciplinary team, Violet survived, relearned how to walk, talk, and swallow, and ultimately walked out of the hospital on her own. Watch Violet’s inspiring story of resilience, hope, and the life-saving impact of pediatric care close to home.

Enroll in an upcoming off-road vehicle (OHV) course in the Magic Valley to learn essential skills and protect yourself and your loved ones.

As summer begins and school ends, kids spend more time outdoors—playing sports, swimming, reading, and enjoying various activities.

Summer is also the peak season for off-road vehicle (OHV) riding, which unfortunately brings an increased risk of OHV-related injuries and fatalities.
On the first weekend of June, St. Luke's Children's Injury Prevention Team will join other advocates to promote safe OHV riding with a special event for children and families. The event will offer information and resources to help keep kids safe and prevent OHV-related injuries.

Tessa, a pediatric orthopedics patient, is making a meaningful impact that goes beyond her own care journey. After being diagnosed with scoliosis and needing to use a brace due to the severity of her spine curvature, Tessa wanted to bring comfort to other patients like her.

Inspired by her experience, Tessa teamed up with two friends to run a 5K race to raise money for other children facing similar diagnoses. Together, they used the funds to purchase special teddy bears designed to support pediatric scoliosis patients.

Each bear includes thoughtful details: Some are wearing a brace, while others have a small incision on their back to represent spinal fusion surgery. The bears also come with patient stories and family support materials, helping children and their families better understand and navigate their diagnosis.

Since their donation, these bears have brought comfort to patients and families during what can be an overwhelming time. Thank you to Tessa and her friends for turning a challenging experience into a source of encouragement for others!

Each May, we observe Trauma Awareness Month to raise awareness about traumatic injuries, promote injury prevention and recognize those who provide trauma care.

Let's talk about E-Bike & E-Scooter safety!

• Start slow — practice handling and braking before riding in traffic.

• Wear a helmet every time (higher speeds = higher risk of head injury).

• Use lights and reflective gear, even during the day.

• Follow local traffic laws.
