ALIVE Solutions, a leading aquatic safety research group, tested the visibility of 14+ swimsuit colors underwater. Most swimsuit colors nearly disappeared, especially pastels, blues, and dark tones, but a few stood out dramatically.
Here are the examples on a light-colored pool bottom and a dark colored bottom. The top photo in each section is the fabric underwater, and the bottom photo is the fabric with surface agitation.

The test results on the lake show each color on the surface (first row images), second row images were from a shore-level perspective, and third row are from a slightly elevated perspective - simulating a boat/dock view.

Across all tests, three colors consistently performed best:
• Neon Yellow
• Neon Green
• Neon Orange

High Contrast = High Visibility!

As warmer weather draws families to pools, rivers, and lakes, time on the water becomes part of summer fun. Swimming and water play can be joyful experiences when safety comes first. While drowning remains a leading cause of unintentional injury death for children under 14, the good news is that simple steps, like planning ahead, staying attentive, and setting clear expectations, can help you and your family enjoy the water safely.

A huge thank-you to the Costco warehouses in Twin Falls, Meridian, Nampa and Boise who raised more than $300,000 for St. Luke's Children's during their May Children's Miracle Network campaign!

Store managers, cashiers and warehouse team members truly went above and beyond in promoting this point-of-sale campaign. Thanks to their incredible efforts, this year's campaign saw a 20% increase over last year.

Team members brought energy and creativity to the campaign through activities like kids’ pushup challenges, costume contests, balloon tag and ice-water head dunks. Their enthusiasm helped engage communities and support local children.

Thanks to its dedication, Costco has raised more than $3.7 million for St. Luke’s Children’s throughout our partnership.

St. Luke’s CARES, or Children At Risk Evaluation Services, Puppets for Prevention program participated in the Boise School District’s summer school at Morley Nelson Elementary School last month.

Lara Miko, a licensed clinical social worker at St. Luke’s, and her puppets visited the school to provide education on personal safety through puppetry to students in pre-kindergarten to fifth grade.

These lessons included instructions on staying safe online, identifying trusted adults and maintaining healthy relationships. Students also learned about making healthy habits, with St. Luke’s Sports Medicine Concussion Clinic and Concussion Clinic manager Kristi Pardue donating water bottles to the students for them to stay hydrated.

During the school year, Miko and her puppets visit schools in the district to educate second and third graders on abuse prevention.
