πŸ’₯ Here's Why You Shouldn't Crack Your Own Back πŸ’₯

Have you ever stood up after you got out of bed in the morning, stretched your arms, and then turned side to side to crack your back?

If so, you're probably not alone. But that doesn't mean it's a habit you should continue with.

As your partner in spinal health, we want your back to be happy, healthy, and free of chronic issues like pain. But adjusting your own spine is something you should leave to us-and here's why.

Your spine is complex. In fact, it’s so complex that chiropractors undergo thousands of hours of training and years of intense schooling to be able to provide you with the care that your body needs. The spine is fragile, and let's face it, you only get one!

You could damage your nerves. Between each of your 33 spinal bones pass a network of nerves that help your brain communicate with the rest of your body. Imagine letting an untrained friend, or even yourself, move your bones forcefully without proper training or knowledge-it could wreak havoc on your nervous system or even cause damage.

You're likely not adjusting the area that needs it. When a chiropractor examines your spine and body, they find the areas of subluxation and work to correct the problem. Sometimes (quite often, in fact), the area that hurts isn't actually the area where the problem lies. So, if you twist to crack your spine because your lower back hurts, the issue could be somewhere else, which means you're doing more harm than good.

If you're dealing with back pain, let us help. Reduce your risk of limited mobility, muscle tears, injury, and more by seeing a trained professional for your chiropractic care instead of going the do-it-yourself route.

We look forward to getting to know you and welcoming you into the practice. Call 208-938-3334 or visit us online at www.ogatachiropractic.com

Why Does My Back Hurt? πŸ’₯

Whether you're dealing with chronic or acute back pain, one thing is certain-continuing to take pain medication to get through your day isn't a long-term solution.

At Ogata Chiro, we dive deep to uncover the root cause of your problem while developing a care plan that serves you and your unique needs.

If you're not sure what's causing your back pain, here are a few common culprits we see often.

1. Bad posture. Keeping your spine properly positioned all day is hard work. For most of us, slouching happens when we use our phones, computers or even watch television. When we fall out of proper posture, the muscles in your back can start to hurt. Tech neck is REAL, y'all!

2. Scoliosis. Our spine has a natural curve-but some people have an additional curvature that can cause problems. Scoliosis can be mild, moderate, or severe.

3. Your mattress. How long have you been sleeping on your current mattress? If it's been longer than 7 years, your mattress has likely lost its support and it may be time to purchase a new one.

4. Old injuries. Have you ever been in a car accident? Or played sports? Injuries that are months, years and even decades old can cause problems present day. Why? It's possible that if the injury never had the chance to heal properly, your body overcompensated for the injury, resulting in problems today that are finally expressing themselves. Fortunately, identifying the root cause of the injury can often lead to success in care.

5. Stress. When you're stressed, your muscles tighten. If chronic stress is a part of your life, so are tight muscles around the clock. As you can imagine, tense muscles that last for weeks on end can easily cause pain in the body.

The good new is, we are here to help! Call 208-938-3334 to schedule your consultation today. Visit us online at www.ogatachiropractic.com

Ice VS. Heat: What to Use and When ❄️πŸ”₯

Life is full of bumps and bruises. And if you've found yourself injured, there seems to be a lot of differing information online about whether or not you should be using heat or ice to help manage pain and reduce inflammation.

As your partner in health, we wanted to set the record straight. Here are a few tips for choosing heat and ice when it comes to specific injuries.

Headaches: If you have a throbbing headache, instead of reaching for a pain reliever like ibuprofen, consider using a cool compress at the base of your skull and around your neck. If you're dealing with a tension headache, choose a warm compress around your neck to help relax tight muscles. Suffer from frequent headaches? Book a visit with us.

New Injuries (less than six weeks old): Ice is usually the winner when it comes to new injuries. That's because ice may help constrict blood vessels, which lowers pain and inflammation. Heat, on the other hand, may increase inflammation in new injuries.

Chronic Injuries (older than six weeks): Choose a heating pad for lingering injuries as the warmth may help promote circulation and relax tight muscles, which can relieve stiff joints and offer relief.

Strains or Sprains: Using both heat and ice can be beneficial. Immediately after a strain or sprain, choose ice to help reduce swelling and inflammation. When inflammation has gone down, use heat to help relieve muscle stiffness.
