Elevated Birth

Elevated Birth Certified labor (birth) doula and professional postpartum doula serving clients in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, and the Greater Treasure Valley.

Offering support throughout pregnancy and labor support in hospital, birth center and home birth settings. Childbirth is a transformative event that not only makes a woman a mother, but also allows her to tap into her own strength and power in the process. A woman is better able to access that power when she feels confident in her choices, knows she has a "birth expert" in the room to help her thr

ough such a vulnerable time, and feels that her partner has support as well. When she feels positively about the birth, she feels positively about herself and her own capabilities. I felt called to birth work after delivering my two children with the support of a doula. I experienced first-hand the benefits of a doula, not only during the birth but also during pregnancy. Our prenatal discussions made me aware of what I didn't know, and helped me to decide what was important to me and my husband. During my labors, she was a calm, reassuring presence; she put my nervous husband and mother at ease as well, which allowed me to do the work I had to do in labor. My goal is for the expectant parents I work with to feel just as supported and strong as I did with my doula. I began training in 2015 and am working toward my certification with CAPPA (the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association). I have experience in both hospital and home birth settings. As a newer doula, I am available to support clients with a variety of budgets. If I am unable to support you, I will find you a doula who can.

Let’s talk about being uncomfortable. 🌿

In my prenatal meetings with clients, we talk about the difference between pain and discomfort. Often these are lumped together, but they are very different things. 🌿

In labor, pain is expected— the pain of contractions, of pushing, of crowning, the . But discomfort, which might be brought on by exhaustion, fluids exiting your body, nausea and vomiting, your baby’s head so low that you feel like you have a bowling ball in your butt, or just the idea of being so vulnerable and exposed— these feelings of discomfort can throw you off even more than the pain you expect to feel 🌿

In that discomfort is the seed of growth. In the unnerving, in the upset, is possibility— to transform, to learn, to love, to find a new version of yourself. Birth is very much a transformative experience in large part to facing discomfort head on. 🌿

Pivot: There are important and increasingly prominent conversations happening about racism, both institutionalized and internal, rightfully and finally led by 🌿

If this makes you uncomfortable, or what you hear from them does, embrace your discomfort, examine it, turn it inside out. 🌿

Your discomfort is far easier to manage than the pain and suffering of those who are making you uncomfortable with their anger and indignation and calls for what may seem to be radical change. 🌿

As a Mexican-American raised in a comfortably middle-class area, who can pass as white and who has personally experienced racism in relatively mild forms, I have had to sit with my own discomfort and watch it eclipsed by the narratives of my black friends and strangers. 🌿

I hope the discomfort continues.

Any age is an appropriate age to begin to talk to your kids about racism.

As anger and heartbreak have swept across America over the killing of yet another black man at the hands of police, CNN and Sesame Street are refocusing their second town hall to address racism.

I’m 42 years old, and I still count on my mother so much, still look up to her for guidance, advice, as someone to cry to, and also someone to laugh with and share even the smallest news about the kids. 🌿

When you have a new baby, or a toddler, it’s easy to see how much they need you. They count on you for sustenance, you are their safe place to cry, explode, or ask 75 million questions a day. 🌿

With two big kids of my own, let me tell you, they still need you just as much when they are older. I mean, I still need my mom at 42! 🌿

Mothers, we are important. If no one else tells you this today or any other day, or you doubt it ever, I hope you hear me. Happy Mother’s Day! 🌼 @ Boise, Idaho
