Miscommunication or delays in response may also lead to serious liability and ethical concerns.

Missouri's heat index is going to be intense over the next couple of days! Be aware: certain Mental Health medications can make the summer heat feel hotter.

Antidepressants (SSRI's, SNRI's, TCA's) and other psychiatric medications can make your skin more sensitive to the sun and interfere with the body's ability to cool itself, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

If you or a loved one take medications that can cause increased heat sensitivity (a comprehensive list by the CDC can be found here: https://heyor.ca/U5pnsQ )
you can prevent heat related illness and injury by:
- Wearing sunscreen
- Carrying water with you, bonus points for having electrolyte packets on hand!
- Planning outings in the early mornings or late evenings when possible
- Knowing where your local cooling centers are in case of power outage (find your nearest cooling center here: https://heyor.ca/MiTc9Y

If you're wondering if it's time to head inside or even seek medical attention, signs of overheating to look out for include:

- High body temperature (103°F or higher)
- Hot, red, dry, or damp skin
- Fast, strong, or weak pulse
- Tiredness or weakness
- Headache, dizziness, nausea, or vomiting

Stay safe, and stay inside when necessary!
