In my opinion, it’s important not to rush static tempering. You can walk into any massage therapy spot and have someone put pressure on you for 10, 20, 30 seconds. Body Tempering is different for me. I don’t want 30 seconds. I want two minutes of constant pressure. If I feel a muscle release, I want to go past that. I want to make sure that initial release was not a phony! So many times I’ve felt a second wave of contraction let go because I was patient.

The lat is a huge gatekeeper of movement. Release the lat and you not only free up the shoulder, but your trunk rotation may open up like never before.

Sometimes I forget how simple Body Tempering can be. It’s easy to get stuck in the thought process of a roller centered with the midline of the body applying equal pressure on both sides. Shift weight left or right and spend more time on one side if it needs more attention.

The IT band is a love hate relationship. Over the last seven years, I found that healthy nervous system and tissue do not resist. You can casually roll the weight all the way down from the hip to the knee and there is no pain, no tremors, no feedback, no resistance. But it takes a while to get there. Usually, I see this if someone’s nervous system is on guard, stuck in fight or flight.

Digging into the lat. such a great angle. Doesn’t take much pressure. The shoulder feels like it unpacks as the lat relaxes.

When I work on the traps, I usually start between the scapulas, focusing on the rhomboid and trap. I’ll slowly work my way out and up. My last point is this angle compressing the trap down towards the scapula. It offers a great stretch for the muscles of the neck and has big influence on surrounding tissues.

One of my favorite places to have pressure applied is on either side of the tailbone, right where the glute attaches to the sacrum. I slowly roll up the glutes and the person I’m working on stops me right as pressure is applied on that spot. The recess in the middle of these rollers misses the tailbone and allows you to put pressure on tissue without discomfort on bone.

The design of this tool allows me to angle and get into the really fine muscles along the spine. Many people I work on say they love the ability to direct me to the problem areas. Then I can easily apply pressure for as long as necessary.
