There are soooooo many products out there! Creating a registry, while fun, can also feel overwhelming!

By baby #3, I learned that less truly is more 😉 So many products are marketed as must haves to make your infant sleep better, your milk supply stronger, schedules easier, or breastfeeding more comfortable, but the truth is that most of them are not necessary and some of them even get in the way of a successful breastfeeding experience!

👉🏼A nursing pillow can absolutely be helpful, but having multiple fancy pillows can make breastfeeding positions more complicated than they need to be. Learning about positioning and bringing baby to your body is more valuable.

👉🏼Nipple shields aren’t for “just in case.” They can be incredibly useful when they’re actually indicated. But if you need one to make breastfeeding tolerable or possible, what you actually need is someone evaluate the underlying issue—not just accept the shield as the solution.

👉🏼 The Snoo 😒 This one I may get some hate for, but please don’t waste your money. Newborns are expected to wake frequently, feed frequently, and need constant care. A product designed to extend sleep stretches in the early weeks & essentially replace the role of caregivers, isn’t one I’d suggesting placing on your registry.

👉🏼If ni***es are painful or damaged, I’d rather you figure out why than automatically cover the problem with an expensive product. Sometimes silverettes are a great option, but figuring out the root cause is really important! A good quality ni**le butter is a much better option to have on hand.

👉🏼 Milk boosting products are marketed as though every breastfeeding mom needs the same solution, but milk production is more complex than that. If supply is a concern, I’d want to know why before recommending anything.

What product did you swear you’d use but never touched?? Or do you have a product you used that you feel had a negative impact on your breastfeeding experience? 👇🏼

We made it ONE whole year.

From the first photo I have of her nursing to rounding out year one. There were SO many times it wasn’t easy.

But I cherish every minute & the bond it has created 🫶🏼

I also added nursing on top of a mountain to the list of places I’ve nursed my baby which I think is pretty freaking awesome 🏔️

Contrary to predatory marketing & social media influencers😉, you really don’t need much to prepare for breastfeeding!

If I had to narrow it down, these are 5 things that are actually worth investing in:

✨ A comfortable nursing bra! Try a few or ask around,
but make sure you find something you’re comfortable wearing on the regular! The Little Milk Bar carries one of my favorites!
✨ A quality breast pump…no not the wearable kind 😉
✨ Reusable nursing pads (the bamboobies are IT, trust me on these!)
✨ A bottle that promotes a deep latch. They aren’t all created equal and different babies have different needs.
✨ Prenatal breastfeeding education & ongoing postpartum support will make you feel much more confident in the journey

The best investment you can make is feeling prepared before your baby arrives and knowing who to call if challenges come up. A little education and support can save you a lot of stress (and money!) postpartum.

Which one would you add to the list? 👇
