Boundary Community Hospital applied for Idaho’s 2026 Rural Health Transformation infrastructure funding. As part of the application process, B*H formed a committee to develop, evaluate, and thoroughly review the application before submitting it for consideration. Despite these efforts, B*H was not selected for an award, leaving the critical projects outlined in its application without support from this funding source.

The decision comes as community members ask whether rural healthcare funding associated with the federal legislation commonly called the “One Big Beautiful Bill” eliminates the need for B*H’s proposed levy. It does not. B*H pursued the grant and the levy to address separate needs. Both were needed before the grant decision, and those needs remain today.

The infrastructure grant application sought funding for specific critical projects. The proposed maintenance and operations levy would provide $1.5 million annually for two years to support emergency services, hospital infrastructure and continued access to local care, as outlined in the levy proposal. Even if B*H had received its requested grant funding, that award would not have replaced the levy. Likewise, the levy was not proposed to take the place of the projects submitted for grant funding.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Anna Prentiss, RN, and Jenn Fuller, RN, share two important ways B*H supports local patients.

We now offer breast biopsies locally, providing a critical next step after additional mammogram or ultrasound testing without requiring patients to travel out of the community.

Jenn also shares how transitional care helps patients who no longer need acute hospital care, but are not ready to return home independently. With short-term rehabilitation and nursing support, patients can regain strength and confidence close to their loved ones, including after a major surgery elsewhere.
