They rely on:
**That birth is inherently risky. (NOT TRUE)

**That birth requires continuous monitoring. (EFM does NOT improve birth outcomes)

**That birth requires physician oversight. (NO IT DOES NOT)

Homebirth is as safe IF NOT SAFER then hospital birth.

Homebirth midwives have a 5% OR LOWER surgical birth rate.

But do tell me how unsafe home birth is.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but opinion should not be confused with fact. Someone recently mentioned something that I found interesting, particularly in light of the evidence that homebirth for low risk mama's is as safe, sometimes safer, than birth in the hospital. The thing is, the US ranks among the lowest in the world for high income countries for birth outcomes. Why? Is it because of the less than 2% of babies being born at home? Or is it because of the more than 98% being born in the hospital? Or is it because we have such a messed up medical system and not everyone can access care, never mind the care they would prefer? Even if all homebirth outcomes were bad, that would be a drop in the proverbial birth bucket if all hospital outcomes were good. 🧐
