The Love Grave. Infamous in the forest. Decorated different each time I arrive. The pinecones always remain. Love is all we need. 💚

I wanted to show what a green burial looks like at a hybrid cemetery. Many images of a natural burial show a shroud or natural casket in a complete natural setting, but this sort of burial happens at standard cemeteries all the time.

Notice the setup with the greens as well as upright headstone markers in the background. Many traditional cemeteries do allow natural burial.

After this very eclectic and wonderful human was lowered into the ground, his daughter and good friend reached for shovels and covered him completely with soil. They worked harmoniously in a beautiful effort of their physical last act of love to honor him.

This wind phone was discovered in Santa Cruz, California by fascinating traveler and fantastic friend of Green Burial Portland, Monica. She finds so much healing by discovering a new phone location and sitting down to make a call.

A wind phone is a disconnected telephone booth where visitors can hold one-way conversations with deceased loved ones.

I was deeply impressed by this lovely family. They honored their matriarch with thoughtful details that reflected exactly who they knew her to be. They arrived early that morning carrying beautiful flowers and sharing heartfelt memories of M. They chose to accompany her to the cemetery in their own vehicle, a decision that felt deeply meaningful.

Once at the cemetery, they instinctively knew the right thing to do. They invited her young great-granddaughters to walk alongside her, their small hands resting gently on the front of her moving basket. It was a simple, beautiful gesture that perfectly captured the love and connection they shared. ❤️
