It’s something we’ve said about Yellow Woman Ranch for a long time. And, as it turns out, it’s almost literally true.

Borrego Springs is completely surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park — more than 600,000 acres of protected desert and the largest state park in California.
Think about that for a moment.

To get here, you don’t just drive to Borrego. You enter the desert, cross through it, and eventually find this little community tucked inside.

And somewhere inside that is Yellow Woman Ranch. Just magical.

Some gatherings are planned for months. Others begin with, “You know what would be fun?”

A birthday. An anniversary. A celebration of life. An offsite. A dinner under the stars. A just because celebration. We like those, too.

At Yellow Woman Ranch, the space changes with you — from something intimate in theStables to a gathering that spills out onto the grounds and into the desert.

Bring us the occasion. Bring us the people.

We’ll help you imagine the possibilities.

Yesterday I was notified that a dear friend had passed away. Ava Peterson was a beautiful being with an edgy sense of humor, a soulful laugh, and the ability to make food taste amazing and a room look gorgeous with minimum effort. She was kind, loving, helpful, and always hopeful.

This video and most of the images posted here were captured during a 3+ things workshop I held November 11, 2023. That's where I met her and connected with her.

As I was combing through my arsenal of photos, I found the last image taken during a small get-together on July 4, 2024. The symbolism isn't lost on me and I had to post it.

Dear Ava, I will miss you greatly. Rest peacefully for you will need it. I'm sure you're already creating a lot of mischief in consciousness during this intermission. See you around, amiga. Keep laughing, and whatever you do, keep cooking. Love you.

Maybe it’s the mountains in every direction. The desert silence. The wide-open sky. Or simply what happens when you bring the right people together in a place that feels nothing like the ordinary.

Yellow Woman Ranch offers a comfortable, chic, and decidedly unconventional setting for celebrations, retreats, team offsites, workshops, and gatherings of all kinds.

Make the space your own. Add an Experience or two. Gather around the fire. Stay for the sunset. Look up and discover more stars than you remembered were there.

Whatever brings you together, we’ll help you make it memorable.

So, what’s next?

Maybe you gather your favorite people.

Maybe you finally take that retreat—or bring one of your own to the desert.

Maybe you try a class you’ve never tried before.

Maybe you come back for the quiet you’ve been missing.

Or perhaps you simply come out, have a cafecito, and see where the day takes you.

Whatever brings you here, we hope a little wonder finds you along the way.

So, what happens at Yellow Woman Ranch?

We gather. We retreat. We move, create, explore, reflect, celebrate, and sometimes simply sit still long enough to hear our hearts beat.

As YWR moves into its next season, we’re putting more focus on the things that have come to define this place: gatherings that bring people together, retreats that let us disconnect from the world out there, experiences that invite us to try, learn, play, and feel good—and a return to 3+ Things®, the project that started it all.

Different reasons to come. Different ways to experience the ranch.

But always the same hope: that you leave feeling a little better than when you arrived.

Yellow Woman Ranch began with a simple idea: create a place where women could gather, connect, and feel at home. And while women were the inspiration, men have been part of the YWR story from the very beginning.

Nearly three years later, that simple idea has grown into something bigger than we imagined—a desert gathering place for wellness, creativity, celebration, reflection, and a little bit of wonder.

Some things have evolved. Others haven’t changed at all.

The desert is still at the heart of everything we do. The mountains still surround us. The sky still puts on a show. And creating a place where people can connect—with themselves, with each other, and with this remarkable landscape—is still why we’re here.

So …

90th day of my birthday

I always say I celebrate my birthday all year so I’m committed to posting how I celebrate my birthday every day for a year.

Today, on the 90th day of my birthday, I celebrated by celebrating our beloved pooch’s 15th birthday. She received a lovely pink bone that smells like cinnamon and I trust tastes something like it. She loved her gift. We continue to feed it to her on a daily basis cause, as you know, around here we celebrate the day we came into this world on a consistent basis because truly, every day is a gift to enjoy.

87th, 88th, 89th day of my birthday

I always say I celebrate my birthday all year so I’m committed to posting how I celebrate my birthday every day for a year.

The last four days of my birthday, I celebrated by spending quality time with my son and his girlfriend and reliving and compiling the wonderful memories from my Colorado trip.

The magic lingers long after the moments have passed. I’m still under the influence.

86th day of my birthday

I always say I celebrate my birthday all year so I’m committed to posting how I celebrate my birthday every day for a year.

Yesterday, on the 86th day of my birthday, I celebrated by having the most delicious avocado toast I’ve ever had. Delish. This was followed by a short hike and wet feet at Adams Falls. Later in the day, we went back to the water on a pontoon boat and toured Grand Lake and surrounding islands. This fabulous birthday celebration ended with a magnificent meal and the greatest company. It was a very full, beautiful, relaxing day with my boy and his girl.
