On Tuesday, the Mass League joined Rep. Jake Auchincloss, Cynthia Sierra, CEO of Manet Community Health Center , and local leaders for a celebration that included a ribbon cutting for Manet's newly expanded Taunton site and a roundtable discussion on how community health care centers are navigating federal policy changes.

The League was proud to honor Congressman Auchincloss with our Congressional Champion Award in recognition of his commitment to our movement and patients, as well as his advocacy and leadership on key health care policy issues.

Community health centers deliver high-quality primary AND specialty care to all who walk through their doors, while still tailoring services to the needs of specific populations. NeighborHealth is a shining example. Through the national PACE program, they design services around the unique needs of older adults.

Many older adults want to stay in their communities but need additional support and care to do so. NeighborHealth’s Neighborhood PACE program steps in to help them live as independently as possible.

Each participant gets a dedicated care team that identifies and arranges every service they need, transforming fragmented elder care into one coordinated system. Most services are available right at a Neighborhood PACE center, which offers medical care alongside social and wellness activities.

All of this is accessible. Neighborhood PACE covers the same services as Medicare and Medicaid and more, plus prescription drugs, transportation, meal delivery, home care, hospital visits, and nursing home stays whenever necessary – with no copays or deductibles.

The impact is transformative for elders and their loved ones. Though all PACE enrollees qualify for nursing home care, only 7% actually live in one. For over 30 years, NeighborHealth has helped older adults in Greater Boston live healthier, more fulfilling lives in the communities they can still call home.

As we celebrate the unique impact of community health centers this week, we are thrilled to share that 30 of Massachusetts’ federally qualified health centers awarded Community Health Quality Recognition badges by HRSA for their work!

Community Health Center, Harbor Health Services, Inc., and North End Waterfront Health received the prestigious gold health center quality leader badge, which places them among the top 10% of community health centers in the country. New Bedford Community Health and NeighborHealth both set the high watermark with five badges each! And an astounding 30 of our members received badges for advancing health information technology!

As always, we are so proud of our members for raising the bar each year and working hard to meet the needs of their patients.

It was so great to have Congressman Jim McGovern for a visit at Health Center of Worcester yesterday! FHCW staff and leadership gave the Congressman an overview of the full range of care and services they provide, and also shared their concerns over how changes to the Medicaid program are going to affect operations and patients' access to care.

We are so grateful to have such a strong partner in Congressman McGovern who is always looking out for the health centers and patients of his district!

It was a great day for community health in Charlestown as the Mass League team joined North End Waterfront Health for a neighborhood health fair to celebrate National Health Center Week!

A special thank you to State Representative Dan Ryan and Dr. Robert McKenna from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for joining us!

Did you know that at least 50% of health center board members are health center patients? By federal mandate, health centers must be governed by the people we serve, so we’re always meeting the unique needs of the communities we care for.

This National Health Center Week, we’re shouting out all patient board members, who lend their time and skills to improving the health of their neighbors.

🎬 WATCH to hear why our board members choose to serve their communities.

Happy Staff Appreciation Day to community health center employees across Massachusetts! Whether you’re a provider delivering compassionate care in the exam room, an outreach worker removing barriers for vulnerable populations, or operations staff keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes, you matter to the wellbeing of your community.

At our Courage to Care Gala, we recognized just a few of the outstanding community health center clinicians and employees in our state.

⭐ Bienvenido Gonzalez (Greater Lawrence Family Health Center) is a trusted presence in Lawrence who goes the extra mile to connect all patients with care.

⭐ Sor Liliana Peña (Lowell Community Health Center) shapes systems to center patients and ensure timely, compassionate care to those who need it most.

⭐ Dr. Herlivi Linares (Lynn Community Health Center) delivers excellent oral health care beyond the walls of LCHC. She completes screenings at a local food pantry, leads dental initiatives in schools, and engages local leaders to increase access.

⭐ Dr. Elias Name left private practice over a decade ago to serve vulnerable populations at Holyoke Health Center. Dr. Name stands out for always taking the time to make his patients feel like family and mentoring the next generation of clinicians.

It’s officially National Health Center Week! For over 60 years, community health centers in Massachusetts and across the country have provided high-quality care and services to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Today, we’re celebrating our history with a trip down memory lane to the 1990s with some photos courtesy of Caring Health Center, Inc., Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Health Center of Worcester, and NeighborHealth!
