Miscarriage, pregnancy or infant loss can be a scary, isolating, and lonely experience.

If you have a friend who is going through this and shares with you - it’s a message: YOU are part of their support system!

Swipe for some ideas on how to support them through this challenging time.

And some bonus tips:

🤍 Expect your friend’s mood to be up + down. It’s normal when navigating the emotional upheaval of loss in addition to the hormonal changes that accompany the end of a pregnancy.

🤍 For many people - no matter the number of weeks - a pregnancy loss is experiencing the death of a loved one. Cards, flowers, check-in calls, and prepared dinner casseroles are often very appropriate and feel extra meaningful.

Are you a therapist in New England who wants to support people in the fertility, pregnancy, or postpartum phase(s) of life?

Hopeful and new(ish) parents’ mental health therapy requires a technical and specialized approach that really differs from therapy in other contexts.

Which is why I am delighted to offer individual and group supervision with virtual and in-person options!

📆 Our next virtual group meeting will be Friday, February 2nd at 12-1:15.

One thing I’m grateful for this year is our warm, welcoming, and sometimes snorty (it’s the babies!) pregnancy + postpartum support group.

Mine are getting big now but I remember the early days (bits + pieces anyway). Everyday they do something that reminds me: ask to be carried or snuggled or leap in their reading (last week!) or use the word ‘perhaps’ in a sentence.

If you’re wondering if this group is for you, I assure you: it is. Bring your best or your worst, be pregnant or come as a solo outing or bring a toddler and a baby. Bring your coffee, your uncombed hair and please, still come if you’re 33 minutes late. It’s all allowed and celebrated. I for one can’t wait to see you!

Calling all clinicians who are interested or already supporting people in the fertility, pregnancy or postpartum world. I’ve been hearing from loads of fellow colleagues (interns and independently licensed) about the need for this kind of dedicated time and space to talk through this unique and fulfilling specialty care. Our group is growing! We’re seeing each baby grow each week, and we’re covering important topics like physical and emotional load, returning to work, navigating “productivity” expectations of self and from others, lack of sleep, daycare recommendations, relationship to relatives and partners, and ohh so much more! This week, we’ll hold space for all of it plus anything else you’re carrying and want to share. We keep things casual and welcoming. You can come one time or every week or as your schedule permits. You can be pregnant or postpartum, quiet or chatty, late, happy, sad, or a wild combination of 10 emotions at once.
