On Christmas Eve 2024, Abby Wood and her husband celebrated the arrival of their twin boys, Clive and Simon, at Mass General—a hard-earned gift after years of challenges. In 2020, Abby began experiencing heart flutters and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition that affects the heart’s ability to pump blood efficiently. While navigating this diagnosis, Abby and her husband also struggled with infertility, enduring five failed rounds of IUI.
Further testing revealed Abby had Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome, making fertility treatments more complicated. Switching to IVF, doctors implanted a single embryo due to her heart condition, but the embryo split, resulting in identical twins. With close monitoring from Mass General obstetrician William Barth, MD, and cardiologist Whitney Coppolino, MD, Abby delivered healthy twins at 35 weeks.
Today, the Wood family is thriving, celebrating another Christmas together and grateful for the expert care and support they received.
