Today’s ophthalmology practices are busier than ever before. As Baby Boomers age, they are seeking vision care in droves as they reach the time that eye health problems present themselves. This access problem often results in long wait times and unsatisfactory scores when patients are surveyed. Many practices have trouble keeping up with the increased demand because they are following traditional

processes. What may have worked in the 20th century may be in need of repair in the 21st. Because of the increased patient volume, it’s necessary to evaluate what works and what doesn’t. Streamlining your practice’s operations may be the key to improving the bottom line and patient satisfaction ratings simultaneously. While practices used to be able to hire technicians without any ophthalmic knowledge and train them on the job, this method is no longer cost-effective. Busy practices require their new hires to have at least a basic foundation of the job, which can then be supplemented by on-the-job training. With over 20 years of experience in ophthalmology, Eyetechs can work with you and your staff to help you schedule more patients, keep patient satisfaction levels up, and help you work smarter, not harder, without sacrificing quality care.

June is Cataract Awareness Month. Cataracts start forming for most in their 40s and progress slowly over time, making vision blurred with colors appearing dull. Having cataracts is a lot like trying to look through a dirty window or smudged camera lens.

Famous painter Claude Monet was diagnosed with cataracts at the age of 60. While his ophthalmologist recommended cataract surgery, Monet initially refused the procedure.

As a result, the impact of his cataracts shows dramatically in his paintings over time. He lamented himself that colors no longer had the same intensity; and he had to keep a strict color pallet and paint labeling system to avoid using the wrong colors.

This Cataract Awareness Month, take a lesson Monet's story. Seek treatment early before cataracts take their toll!
