Yesterday marked the 25th anniversary of International Overdose Awareness Day – a poignant day of remembrance of those we have lost to overdose and the ongoing need to educate and support our communities to prevent these tragic casualties.

Thanks to student volunteers from the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, BHCHP put together a memorial table in the lobby where patients and staff dropped by to mourn friends and family whose lives were cut short due to overdose. Across BHCHP's care continuum, we're forging new pathways to tackle this public health challenge. And we're grateful for your support, which has helped us provide lifesaving services to some of Boston's most vulnerable and resilient residents.

It’s International Day of the Dog! Say hello to some of the "pawsome” friends who visit BHCHP’s medical respite patients and staff on Thursday mornings.

Whenever the Boston Medical Center Healing Pups visit, infectious joy fills our halls. While playing with the dogs, patients often recall and share stories of their own four-legged friends and how much they meant to them. Many enjoy snuggling with the dogs and there's an especially long line of people waiting around to cuddle around our tiniest chihuahua Bitsy.

The reaction from staff is no different. Hanging out with the dogs gives them a chance to slow down amidst their busy schedules caring for some of Boston’s most vulnerable and medically complex patients. And seeing our patients light up in this social setting offers a mindful reminder of the importance of feeling connected.

We’re so grateful for our partnership with the Healing Pups and to the dogs and the handlers for taking the time to visit us and share their love!

Thank you to everyone who made our 2026 Sox for Socks campaign an enormous success! Red Sox Nation didn’t disappoint with their generosity, and we’re truly blessed to have this longstanding partnership advance our mission, one pair of socks at a time.

This year’s event was made extra special, thanks to Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭 declaring July 22 as Sox for Socks Day in Boston and Boston City Councilor Sharon Durkan also honoring our partnership with a citation! None of this would be possible without the Boston Red Sox and Red Sox Foundation lending us their support and hosting us at America’s favorite ballpark.

In addition to the Red Sox and the Red Sox Foundation, a heartfelt thanks to Sox for Socks partners, NESN, Gentle Giant Moving Company, and The Boston Globe, for championing this meaningful drive. The success of Sox for Socks rests on the collective efforts of all, and we’ve got an amazing team making it possible.

We’re already looking forward to next year and, until then, go Red Sox!

Our sincere appreciation to the 2025-26 AmeriCorps cohort completing their service at BHCHP this month! They have made a powerful impact on the lives of our patients and we laud their commitment to our mission.

As many of them head off to graduate school and future careers as doctors, nurses, social workers, and public health leaders, we wish them the best of luck in their next journeys and hope that our paths will continue to intersect. Over the years, many AmeriCorps fellows have returned to work at BHCHP after their trainings!

It's official: thanks to Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭, today is Sox for Socks Day in Boston!

Our CEO, Dr. Denise De Las Nueces, with Claire Durant from the Boston Red Sox leadership, were proud to display the official proclamation at Fenway Park, where our three-game Sox for Socks campaign kicked off on Monday. This annual event mobilizes Red Sox Nation to lend their support for people experiencing homelessness in Boston through donations of new, white cotton socks for our patients.

We were also honored to receive a citation from Boston City Councilor Sharon Durkan, who joined us at Fenway to show her support and present this recognition in person.

We’re beyond grateful to the Mayor and Councilor for championing this invaluable campaign to support the needs of people experiencing homelessness in Boston.

Sox for Socks, one of BHCHP’s most beloved traditions, is returning to Fenway Park this week, and we hope you can join in on the festivities! During the July 19-22 homestand, BHCHP staff and volunteers will be at the ballpark gates to collect sock donations from gamegoers.
