Intended parenthood through surrogacy can bring feelings you never expected and may not always feel comfortable admitting.
Sometimes there’s jealousy when your gestational carrier talks about feeling the baby move.
Sometimes there’s grief for the pregnancy experience you imagined having yourself.
Sometimes there’s anxiety when you realize how little of the process you can control.
Sometimes there’s fear that you’ll feel disconnected from your baby.
Sometimes there’s resentment that you may feel guilty for even having.
And sometimes there’s simply the feeling of being left out of an experience that is deeply meaningful to you.
You can feel all of these things and still be deeply grateful for your gestational carrier. You can trust her, appreciate her, and care deeply about her experience while also making space for your own complicated feelings.
The goal isn’t to judge the feeling, suppress it, or convince yourself you shouldn’t feel it. It’s to understand where it comes from, make space for it, and decide how you want to respond.
Because intended parents deserve a space where they don’t have to choose between gratitude and honesty.
