A strong support system can make a meaningful difference during a cancer journey. For many patients like Michael, encouragement from a partner or loved one can help them feel more confident exploring opportunities to contribute to research.

Michael encourages us to, “Ask your doctor today how you can help with research.”

Cancer care affects more than physical health and emotional well-being. Access to supportive care is also an essential part of treatment.

Cancer is considered a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Disability is also associated with a higher risk of cancer and may result from cancer or its treatment. Dana-Farber provides Disability Accessibility Services for any patient who needs them.

As part of this work, the Neuro-Inclusive Oncology Care and Empowerment Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute supports adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD), along with their care teams.

The Neuro-Inclusive team includes experienced, licensed social workers and other professionals from Dana-Farber’s Adult Social Work Program. They help patients and families navigate the emotional and practical challenges that can arise throughout cancer treatment.

This specialized initiative provides tailored support for adults with IDD, offers neuro-inclusive training for the workforce, and helps improve systems across care settings to make treatment more accessible for all.

Survivorship is an ongoing journey, and support during this time can make a meaningful difference.

Our survivorship programs and services for adult survivors are here to provide comprehensive support throughout this transition. Through coordinated care, access to resources, and guidance from multidisciplinary teams, we work with patients and their primary care providers to support health, well-being, and quality of life beyond cancer.

Moments like this matter most. 🩷

During a clinical trial, your medical team will pay close attention to you and your health. You are not alone—your care team is with you every step of the way.

Susan encourages us to: “Ask your doctor today if a clinical trial may be right for you.”

🔬 The CAPELA study is seeking participants with advanced estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer.

This phase II multi-center randomized study is comparing a combination of two drugs, capecitabine and elacestrant, to capecitabine alone as a treatment for ER+ metastatic breast cancer.

This study is designed for participants with cancer that has previously stopped responding to medication in the class of therapy called CDK 4/6 inhibitors, including palbociclib, ribociclib, or abemaciclb.
