Our Fall session is off to a good start at the Seattle Children's Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center. In Brunch class we enjoyed baking banana bread, cutting up fresh fruit, and enjoying cereal with Chef Conny.

🎉Exciting News for the ABC Community! 🎉

We are thrilled to share that our longtime friends and community partners, Zulu's Board Game Cafe, is expanding and moving right next door to the Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center! Zulu's will be taking over the building that previously housed Rite Aid and the Antique Store, making them our newest neighbors.

We have been fans of Zulu's for years and have always admired the welcoming, inclusive, and community-centered experiences they create. We could not be more excited to see them become an even bigger part of our local community.

A special thank you to Colleen Zaremba and the Zulu's management team for recently visiting the ABC. We enjoyed sharing our mission and exploring opportunities for future partnership and collaboration. We are especially excited to welcome Zulu's Owners Matt and Colleen Zaremba and their incredible team as our new neighbors and community partners. The future is bright, and we look forward to finding new ways to connect our communities, build relationships, and create memorable experiences together.

💙🌟 Celebrating Community, Connection, and Wellness 🌟💙

On Saturday, August 15, members of the Alyssa Burnett Center community proudly participated in the Magnuson Youth Mental Health & Wellness Resource Fair hosted by our incredible partners at the Seattle Children's Autism Center

Representing ABC were Instructor Mikaela Henderson and Art Therapist Mike Cardenas Willen. Also pictured are Alex Johnston, ABC Instructor; ABC Director Kimika Green, Faith Eakin, Program Manager with the SCH Community Health External Affairs Team; and Dr. Lisa Nowinski, Clinical and Operational Director of the Autism Center.

Community is one of the most powerful tools for supporting mental health and well-being. When families, advocates, and organizations come together, we create stronger networks of support, connection, and opportunity for youth and their families.

A special thank you to Rainee Selby and Jaimie Sigesmund, Family Advocate Case Managers, for their outstanding leadership in planning this incredible event. Your dedication helped bring together over 50 valuable resources, meaningful connections, and a shared commitment to helping young people thrive. We are grateful to our Autism Center partners for hosting such an impactful day!

AtWork! is offering a Behavior as Communication Training on Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. focused on looking beyond behavior to better understand unmet needs, communication and environmental influences.

Participants will learn practical, person-centered strategies to better understand behavior and support positive outcomes and quality of life.

ABC Director Kimika Green and Faith Eakin, Program Manager with Seattle Children’s Community Health External Affairs Team, recently visited the beautiful Sunset Lake Camp, home of the annual Seattle Children's Hospital Stanley Stamm Camp.

Each summer, Stanley Stamm Camp provides nearly 100 children (Ages 6-14) with chronic medical conditions the opportunity to enjoy a traditional overnight camp experience filled with activities like fishing, horseback riding, outdoor adventures, and new friendships.

Founded by Seattle Children’s heart specialist Dr. Stanley Stamm, the camp is supported by dedicated medical and community volunteers, making it possible for children with complex medical needs to safely experience the magic of summer camp at no cost to families.

During their visit, Kimika and Faith connected with Ursala Schwenn (also pictured), Stanley Stamm Camp Clinical Coordinator, whose passion and leadership help create an inclusive and unforgettable experience for campers and their families.

A huge thank you to the entire Stanley Stamm Camp Team and their Foundation Team for continuing to fund, support, and lead this extraordinary program. The ABC looks forward to visiting each year and celebrating the incredible impact this camp has on children, families, and our community. The leadership team at the ABC recently had the opportunity to visit the Northshore Wranglers Inclusion Program at the Northshore Senior Center, led by Inclusion Coordinator - Jamie Claypool (pictured with ABC leadership). The visit provided valuable insight into a program dedicated to creating meaningful, inclusive recreational and social opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Through their growing partnership, the Inclusion Program and ABC share a common goal: expanding access to community-based activities, connections, and opportunities that enrich the lives of adults with IDD and their families. Strong partnerships like this are essential to building more inclusive communities, increasing choice and access, and ensuring that individuals of all abilities have opportunities to engage, belong, and thrive. ABC is grateful for the collaboration and looks forward to continuing to work together to support adults with IDD across our region.
