💥 Jump. Land. Shuffle. Stop. Change direction. Repeat.

A single volleyball practice can place significant demands on the lower body, particularly when athletes are repeatedly jumping and landing.

Preparing the knees means looking beyond the knees themselves.

Strength through the hips and legs, ankle mobility, balance, and good landing control all contribute to how forces are managed throughout the body.

Exercises such as squats, lunges, step downs, and controlled landing drills can help build a stronger foundation.

Your knees have a lot of work to do this season. Give them the preparation to match.

Volleyball requires athletes to repeatedly reach overhead for serves, blocks, sets, and attacks.

But shoulder movement doesn't happen in isolation. Mobility through the shoulder, upper back, and surrounding muscles all contributes to comfortable overhead movement.

A good warm up can include controlled arm movements, upper back mobility, and exercises that activate the muscles around the shoulder blade.

Don't wait until your shoulder feels tight to start thinking about mobility.

A few minutes of focused preparation before practices and matches can help your body feel more prepared for all those serves, hits, and blocks ahead.

A powerful vertical jump isn't created by jumping alone. 🦵

Strength through the glutes, quads, hamstrings, calves, and core helps create the force needed to get off the ground. Just as importantly, that strength helps control the body when returning to the floor.

Squats, lunges, calf raises, and other lower body exercises can all contribute to a stronger athletic foundation.

The key is developing strength progressively rather than simply adding more and more jumps to practice.

Whether you're attacking at the net or going up for a block, building strength away from the court can support what you do on it.

🏐 Volleyball players spend a lot of time working on jumping higher, but every jump eventually ends in a landing.

Being able to absorb that landing with control requires coordination through the ankles, knees, hips, and core.

Exercises that focus on controlled landings, lower body strength, balance, and stability can help athletes develop better movement mechanics for the court.

Don't just train to get higher. Train to come back down with control.

Strong jumping mechanics and strong landing mechanics work together to help volleyball players handle the repeated demands of practices and matches.

💪🏐 Serving, spiking, and hitting all require repeated high-speed shoulder movements. Over the course of practices and matches, the muscles responsible for controlling these movements can become fatigued.

Shoulder strength matters, but so do mobility, technique, and recovery. Preparing the shoulder before practice and giving it enough time to recover afterwards can help it better tolerate the demands of a busy volleyball schedule.

If your shoulder consistently feels tired, tight, or different after playing, don't simply assume it's part of the sport. Pay attention to what your body is telling you.

🚨🏆 Listen to What Your Body Is Telling You

Young athletes are often determined to keep playing, even when something doesn't feel quite right.

But recurring soreness, unusual tightness, reduced movement, or discomfort that keeps returning shouldn't simply become "part of the season."

These small changes can sometimes be a sign that training load, recovery, strength, or movement needs attention.

Encourage athletes to communicate openly about how their bodies feel rather than waiting until something stops them from playing.

At Sports Physical Therapy, we're here to help athletes understand what's happening and work toward getting back to doing what they love.

🚗🛠️ Get Back to Doing What You Love

An injury from a car accident or work related incident can affect much more than your working day.

It can keep you away from the soccer field, volleyball court, gym, weekend activities, or simply spending active time with friends and family.

At Sports Physical Therapy, our goal is to help you rebuild movement, strength, and confidence so you can work toward returning to the activities that matter to you.

Don't make "getting by" the finish line. Let's work toward getting you back to doing what you love again.

⚽↩️ Soccer Isn't Just About Running

Soccer players rarely move in a straight line for long.

They accelerate, decelerate, cut, turn, react, and change direction repeatedly throughout a game. All of those movements require strength, balance, coordination, and control.

That's why preparation should include more than simply running laps.

Strength exercises, single leg training, controlled cutting drills, and balance work can better prepare the body for the movements athletes actually perform on the field.

Building these skills away from competition can help young athletes feel stronger and more confident when the pace of the game increases.
