If you can't give yourself basic self-respect right now, give yourself basic self-care. Drink the water. Eat the meal. Take the walk. Get some rest. Not because you've earned it, but because you're human. There will be days when your confidence disappears, when your mind convinces you that you don't matter enough to be cared for.

Those are the days when the smallest acts become the most important. Sometimes healing doesn't begin with loving yourself. Sometimes it begins with refusing to neglect yourself. And often, the way back to self-respect starts with simple reminders that your body, your mind, and your life are still worth taking care of.

Welcome January — a quiet, contemplative month. A time to take our cues from nature. This month is not about starting fast, jumping in with both feet, and sweeping changes. It’s a call to rest after surviving.

Yes!

This one hit me a bit harder than I expected today. I think this is one of the biggest things I’ve learned in the past couple of years… SAFETY. The ability to feel safe and calm in my body, in my environment, in my decisions, and knowing how to set boundaries to protect that safety.

Often times, we replay events that have happened to us, relive experiences and talk through what happened to us in an attempt to move forward… however, as I’ve learned, we must learn how to feel safe again so we can truly set ourselves on the path to healing. I’ve done more healing in the past year, then I have done collectively over last 6 years because I’ve finally learned to feel safe. I’ve set myself up in an environment that protects my safety, and I’ve surrounded myself with a few select people who help me to fell safe (learning that not everyone deserves access, and not everyone is going to do harm).

My hope is that wherever you are in your healing journey, that you are working on feeling safe again (or feeling safe for the first time ever). And that you can learn to trust your safety.
