New advances in heart care are expanding treatment options for patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib). AFib is the most common heart rhythm disorder, affecting millions of Americans and increasing the risk of stroke and heart failure.
In a recent B*H health lecture, Maria Anderson, MD, FACC, cardiac electrophysiologist with Boulder Heart, explored one of the latest advancements in AFib treatment – pulsed field ablation (PFA).
Unlike traditional ablation techniques that use heat or cold, PFA uses targeted electrical pulses to treat the cells responsible for abnormal heart rhythms. This innovative approach may help reduce certain procedural risks while offering an effective treatment option for eligible patients.
