Another example of unilateral ptosis—often noticed as eyelid asymmetry or what patients may describe as a “lazy eye” appearance.

Here, ptosis repair combined with upper blepharoplasty improves eyelid symmetry while creating a brighter, more open appearance.

At just 5 weeks post-op, healing and eyelid position are still evolving. Some asymmetry is common after all types of ptosis repair, particularly when treating just one eyelid.

Improvement, not perfect symmetry, is the goal!

Smize ✨️ this patient is in her 40s and wanted a little refresher. 40s is the decade where we often can appreciate more tangible changes.

Upper blepharoplasty and chemical peel are the perfect brightenjng duo with minimal downtime and when a candidate, maximum efficacy.

It makes you feel good from the inside out in my experience.

Educate to Empower | Week 2

Last week, we explored the idea that healthy skin is like a well-made bed.

This week, we take that analogy one step further.

Healthy skin isn't just one layer—it has a distinct design.

✨ The Epidermis is your protective barrier. It shields you from the outside world, helps regulate water loss, protects against UV damage, produces pigment, and constantly renews itself.

✨ The Dermis provides the strength and support beneath the surface. It contains collagen, elastin, blood vessels, nerves, hair follicles, and specialized glands that keep skin resilient and functioning.

✨ The Foundation is your overall health. Your genetics, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and daily habits all influence how well your skin can build, repair, and maintain itself.

When we understand what each layer was designed to do, our approach to skincare becomes much more intentional.

Instead of asking,

"What's the best treatment?"

we begin asking,

"What does this layer of skin need?"

That shift changes everything.

My goal isn't simply to recommend treatments—it's to help you understand the incredible physiology behind your skin so you can make informed, confident decisions about your health.

Educate to Empower.

What part of your skin's design surprised you the most?

Asymmetric ptosis is one of the most challenging eyelid conditions to treat.

Before surgery, we performed a diagnostic phenylephrine test, which suggested that repairing both eyelids would provide the best chance at achieving balance. One month after bilateral levator advancement and bilateral direct outer brow repositioning, her eyelids are significantly more open and symmetric.

Is she perfectly symmetric? No—and that's expected.

Eyelids heal independently, muscles respond differently, and every face has natural asymmetry. My goal isn't perfection. It's restoring function while creating the most natural, balanced appearance possible.

Sometimes the best surgical result is one that still looks like YOU!

Welcome to Educate to Empower!

One of the most common questions I hear is:

"Why are you recommending more than one treatment?"

The answer is simple: different treatments do different jobs.

A chemical peel primarily renews the surface of the skin, while microneedling stimulates collagen remodeling beneath the surface. When thoughtfully combined, they complement one another to promote healthier, more natural-looking skin.

The goal isn't to do more treatments.

The goal is to choose the right treatment—or combination of treatments—for your anatomy, skin, and goals.

That's the philosophy behind Educate to Empower.

My mission is to help you understand the science, philosophy, and art of healthy aging so you can make informed decisions with confidence—whether you're considering a procedure or simply want to better understand your skin.

What topic would you like me to cover in a future lesson?

The eyelid and brow function as a contour unit. All framed around the orbital bony framework. When the soft tissue of the eyelid and brow inevitably loosen, they tend to slump downward on said bony framework rather than hugging them.

Part of batural aesthetic surgery is to restore the soft tissue to a position where it's been before and not beyond.

There are several ways to address the eyelid/eyebrow unit depending on anatomy, skin type, preferences, anesthesia, etc.

This is often millimeters of change.

What a difference!
