We talk often about cardiovascular health here at Plant Powered Physicians, and in honor of February being Heart Month, we’re dedicating this week to all things heart. 🫀

On our Substack, we’ll be diving into:
• The science behind plant-forward nutrition and cardiovascular outcomes
• Practical, heart-supportive recipes you can start using right away
• The everyday habits that meaningfully move the needle

And because this season of the podcast is centered on all things protein, we’ll also be exploring the relationship between protein sources and heart health — what the research shows, where misconceptions arise, and how to think critically about building a cardioprotective plate.

Follow along this week as we put evidence-based heart health front and center.

What is an integrative oncologist? What do we do at Cancer Care Consulting?
We are a medical practice that complements your traditional care through additional and integrative therapies, such as lifestyle medicine and metabolic modification.
The goal is to keep your body’s environment hostile to cancer growth. This does not replace but rather complements traditional cancer treatments like chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation, to create an environment less favorable to tumor growth, recurrence, and metastasis.
How do we do this?
A) metabolism - cancer cells rely on glucose, fatty acids, and glutathione to grow. Depending on your particular type of cancer, we will work with you to ensure you are not providing unnecessary fuel to help grow your cancer. These interventions help to “starve” cancer cells by cutting off their preferred fuel supply.
B ) Inflammation, toxins, oxidation
Chronic inflammation provides a tumor-friendly environment, so we focus on reducing inflammation and avoiding toxins that can promote tumor growth.
Anti-inflammatory diets, lifestyle modifications (such as improved sleep, reduced stress) and gut microbiome modulation reduce inflammatory pathways that support tumor growth.
C) Hormones - in particular for prostate and breast cancers that are highly hormone driven, it’s important to control external factors that might be increasing estrogen metabolites. Diet and supplements can contribute to elevated hormones, so we carefully examine any factors that may be contributing to excess tumor growth through hormones.
D) Nutrition & Gut Health
We view food and nutrition as an optimal way to make sure you have appropriate intake of calories, good fats, and to avoid nutritional deficiencies. We recommend a balanced, anti-inflammatory, healthy whole food plant-based diet rather than supplements. We’ll ensure that the important nutrients are available and present in food, and work with you to supplement what might be missing.
E) Counseling - your mindset and approach to cancer affect your treatment and healing. Whether newly diagnosed and overwhelmed, facing a recurrence, or pondering end of life existential questions, cancer is a process that affects both mind and body, and we are here for both.

Our approach is to treat the whole patient, addressing all of the external and lifestyle modifications that will help create a hostile environment for cancer, along with traditional therapies. We do not sell anything - no supplements, vitamins, or tinctures. We can recommend things we like and use, but we’re not trying to sell you anything - except evidence based medical advice and guidance.
