“I don’t even remember I have an implant there!” 🥰🦷

That’s what my patient told me at his six-year follow-up.

We placed this ceramic implant on May 29, 2020, and more than six years later, we’re very happy with what we’re seeing.

But there’s something important I want to show you in these X-rays. 👀

Look at the bone levels around the implant.

When we restored this implant, we used a platform-switched crown design to provide space for the peri-implant soft tissues and support a favorable restorative emergence profile.

Why does that matter?

The relationship between the crown, the soft tissue, and the crestal bone can influence long-term peri-implant health.

Another detail I pay close attention to is cement control.

We use a carefully controlled amount of cement and remove excess meticulously because residual subgingival cement is a recognized risk factor for peri-implant inflammation.

At this follow-up:

🦷 The radiographic bone levels appear favorable.
🦷 The surrounding gum tissue looks healthy clinically.
🦷 His implant stability reading is high.
🦷 His chewing function is comfortable.
🦷 And he says he sometimes forgets the implant is even there!

An implant isn’t finished when we place it.

The restorative design, tissue management, hygiene, and long-term follow-up all matter.

Our patient came to Family Holistic Dentistry concerned about the discoloration of her front tooth.

After a thorough evaluation, we discovered that the tooth was no longer vital and needed to be extracted.

She already had two titanium implants, but this time, she wanted something different.

✨ She chose a ceramic implant because the material used in her body was important to her.

Three months after implant placement, he has no discomfort, his gums look well healed, and his AnyCheck stability reading is over 80. 🦷

So why wait another month before the crown?

The stability reading is encouraging, but it’s only one part of my assessment. I want to give the surrounding bone more time to heal before asking the implant to support a crown.

At this stage, he can stop wearing his Essix and gradually return to eating without it, following the instructions we gave him. In about a month, we’ll take digital impressions, choose the shade, and adjust the gum if needed. A few days later, we’ll deliver a temporary PMMA crown so we can evaluate its shape, bite, and function.

After about six weeks with the temporary, we’ll make the final crown using the same design or refine it based on what we learned.

We’re taking each step at the right time for his healing. Every detail matters. 🤍

Holistic dentistry doesn’t mean I make the decision for you. 👀

In this consultation, I’m explaining two different findings: bone loss around an implant that needs attention, and another tooth with a large amalgam restoration, decay, and changes around the root.

For that tooth, extraction may be one option. But if the patient wants to explore whether the tooth can be saved, I can refer them to an endodontist for an evaluation.

I think this part is important.

An extraction is irreversible.

My job is to explain what I see, what the options are, the possible risks of each option, and what may happen if we wait.

Then the patient gets to participate in the decision.

For me, holistic dentistry is not about automatically saying “yes” or “no” to one treatment.

It’s about looking at the whole patient, educating them, and helping them make an informed choice about their own health.

A successful implant is more than placing the implant. 🦷

It starts with careful CBCT planning—evaluating the bone, anatomy, implant position, and space for the future crown.

Then comes placement → healing → soft-tissue management → final crown → long-term maintenance.

We continue following our implant patients to monitor their hygiene, gums, function, and surrounding bone over time.

Because the goal isn’t simply to place an implant. It’s to create a restoration that can function well and be maintained for years to come.

Why did this patient want her titanium implant removed? 👀

After receiving her titanium dental implant, this patient reported several concerns:

🦷 Pain and discomfort around the implant
🦷 Neck stiffness that she noticed after placement
🦷 Sensitivity to metals
🦷 Sensations she described as galvanism in her mouth

She strongly wanted the implant removed.

But was the implant failing? Not necessarily.

These symptoms can have different causes. Their timing does not establish that titanium caused them, and metal sensitivity or galvanism requires appropriate evaluation.

For me, listening to the patient’s experience is an important part of dentistry.

After evaluating her situation and discussing her options, we respected her informed decision to have the implant removed.

Not every titanium implant needs to be removed. Every patient’s situation deserves an individualized evaluation.

What does a holistic approach to wisdom tooth removal look like at our office? 🦷🌿

For me, it starts with careful planning, gentle technique, and attention to healing.

This patient is having all four wisdom teeth removed. I’m reviewing their relationship to the nerve canal, sinuses, and neighboring second molars.

When needed, we section the teeth into smaller pieces to remove them with less force and minimize trauma.

We also use piezosurgery during socket cleaning to remove residual periodontal ligament when indicated. Its ultrasonic vibrations allow precise work on hard tissue while helping spare nearby soft tissues—an important feature when working near delicate structures.

Depending on the case, our protocol includes PRF prepared from your own blood, ozone, laser sweeps, and photobiomodulation, which may help reduce postoperative discomfort and swelling.

And when grafting is appropriate, your own extracted tooth can become part of the healing plan! After cleaning and processing, its dentin provides a scaffold with minerals and collagen similar to bone. This can support bone healing behind the second molar.

We’ve seen encouraging recovery at our patients’ postoperative visits, and we tailor care to each person.

A special Sunday blessing for Bella and Luna 🐾🙏❤️

Today we brought our sweet girls to church for the blessing of the animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

The priest spoke so beautifully about how God created all the animals on Earth—a reminder to love and care for His creation.

Bella and Luna bring so much love and joy to our family. I’m grateful we could share this special moment and receive a blessing for them. ❤️
