Why the potatoes and white rice? Cooked and then cooled, both build resistant starch, which feeds the butyrate-producing bacteria in your gut. Butyrate is mast cell stabilizing, so this is a simple gut-health move that fits right into a low-nickel week.

Dr. Laura Duzett, DO NTP explains how chronic stress unexpectedly increases nickel absorption. Inflammation raises hepcidin, which initially blocks iron. When iron drops, your body ramps up transporters like DMT1 to compensate. However, DMT1 also absorbs nickel, leading to higher nickel levels from the same foods. Hydration and diet are key during the day. At 7 PM, my lights shift to warm tones to protect melatonin production. Poor sleep profoundly impacts histamine levels through multiple pathways. It increases TLR4 sensitivity, bacterial waste from the gut (reducing DAO), and free radical stress (damaging HNMT). Furthermore, sleep desynchronizes mast cell clocks, increasing IgE receptors and reactivity. One bad night of sleep can directly lead to a flare. This is educational content only.
