I used to mistake s*x for intimacy…

Assuming all this spending time together meant they wanted a relationship…

Instead of asking the question…

And believing the answer.

There is another way to do relationships. There is another way to do relationship with yourself.

There’s a way that makes life feel full of vitality, like you can do anything and anything is possible.

There’s a way to make yourself the main character of your life.

There’s a way to take back your power.

And it starts with you. It starts with a decision to do something different this time.

Otherwise subconscious patterns can’t help but repeat themselves, even when we logically know it’s not good for us.

It takes deep work. Somatic work. Nervous system rewiring. Childhood trauma healing. Rebuilding a loving relationship with ourselves, with our inner child. Unlearning good girl conditioning and learning to live by our own inner authority.

As an almost-30 single woman, you know what you want and you refuse to settle.

You see a gorgeous, hot couple at the airport, or at a yoga class, or at a restaurant… and you WANT that.

You fantasize about what it would be like to have others look at you and your man like that, to be the hot ones in the room, to show him off to your friends, to get compliments from your family.

When you’re swiping on the apps, yeah, you read their profile, but you mainly look at their photos and if they’re not hot… buh-bye. swipe left.

Because you feel you feel like you DESERVE a hot guy… right?!

The pressure on that age 30 makes us want to RUSH to find a relationship. We’re panicking because we’re single and almost 30.

I remember waking up in a panic at age 30 thinking, omg, will I find someone? When am I going to find a relationship? Is it ever going to happen?

The pressure and the panic is so real. But when we approach dating from panic, rushing, and desperation, it literally blocks us from a healthy relationship.

From a state of panic and desperation, we’re giving our power away to the other person. We’re quick to IGNORE red flags because we really want it to work. We’re quick to make excuses for them because we think we have great chemistry. We’re quick to imagine their potential instead of be real about the person in front of us.

It takes inner security, inner stability, inner strength to slow down and take your time to find a relationship with a real emotional connection, a real lasting power.

Finding professional support is so key in this stage of life, so that you don’t settle and stay true to what you really desire.

A secure relationship is a radical act of resistance is a patriarchal society.

A patriarchy is structured upon male dominance over female. The structure is founded on power and control. It constructs a superiority of one gender over another and perpetuates a binary of gender because of the either/or superior/inferior it forces. A patriarchy maintains its structure through physical emotional and psychological violence.

These are the waters we swim in whether we have awareness or not. And these dynamics play out in every level of society, from institutions to communities to families to individuals. In the colonized world we live in, most relationships play out these dynamics of power and control, in big and small ways. Women doing the unpaid domestic labor, women carrying the mental load, gaslighting, not believing women, double standards, the wage gap, r**e culture, s*xual, physical, and emotional abuse, the list goes on.

But in a secure relationship, there is shared power. There is mutual respect. The relationship empowers both parties to have the freedom to live their fullest lives. It undermines the patriarchal expectation of power and control of women, of one person having more power and the other having less agency.

A secure relationship RESISTS patriarchy; it shines a light on a different way that is possible to relate to each other and the world where we can share power and resources and where loving each other means giving each other the freedom to be who we are without it threatening our egos.

THIS IS WHY SECURE ATTACHMENT IS SO HARD. THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO WORK AT IT. IT WILL FEEL RADICALLY DIFFERENT THAN ANYTHING ELSE WEVE HAD. IT IS CARVING AN UNCHARTED PATH THAT PATRIARCHY DOESNT WANT US TO KNOW ABOUT.
