The Kankakee County Fair kicks off this week, and between the midway dust, the sun overhead, and a full day on your feet, your eyes are working harder than you might realize.
July is also UV Safety Month, and a day outdoors like this is exactly the reminder it is meant to be: UV exposure and airborne dust and pollen can leave eyes irritated, red, or unusually dry by the end of the day, especially if you already deal with seasonal allergies or dry eye.
A pair of UV protective sunglasses and a few extra blinks go further than people expect, but if redness, irritation, or blurry spells become a regular part of your summer rather than a one day thing, that is worth mentioning at your next eye exam. A general eye exam is also a good way to catch small issues, like early dry eye or allergy related irritation, before fair season turns into back to school season.
