Eating Disorder Center of Montana

Eating Disorder Center of Montana Living wholeheartedly. We treat the whole person, not just the symptom. We work closely with other medical providers to coordinate care.

Our experienced team of multi-disciplinary clinicians takes an evidence-based approach to eating disorder treatment, education, and advocacy. The Eating Disorder Center of Montana (EDCMT) is a licensed healthcare facility with structured and holistic programs for patients 16 years and older through its outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization/day treatment programs, located in

Bozeman, Montana. We strive to empower our patients with newfound resiliency and skills they can use the rest of their lives. We guide our patients to address their stressors, moving beyond disordered coping to free them to live wholeheartedly. Program services include a combination of individual, family, and group psychotherapy, nutrition counseling and rehabilitation, psycho-education, and supervised meal encounters. The treatment team consists of an attending physician (psychiatrist), advanced-degree licensed therapists, registered dietitians, registered nurses, milieu therapists, and administrators. At EDCMT, we place our patients into specific levels of care based on the unique needs of each person: partial hospitalization/day treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programs. We work with patients as well as the families of those who are struggling with eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, ARFID, binge eating disorder, and all eating problems that don’t fit a specific category. Our spacious and attractive lodging facility for adults is located within walking distance from EDCMT’s two locations in Downtown Bozeman, providing an accommodation for out-of-town patients (over 18) who need a place to stay during the course of their treatment. In addition to in-person treatment, we also provide tele-health services through our virtual HIPAA compliant platform for outpatient clients throughout Montana.

What does a dietitian at an eating disorder treatment center actually do all day?

Hint: It's about so much more than food.

Every day looks a little different, but our dietitians spend their time helping clients rebuild trust with food, challenge nutrition myths, navigate meals with confidence, and reconnect with their bodies with compassion—not judgment.

From individual nutrition sessions and meal support to collaborating with therapists, nurses, and medical providers, recovery is truly a team effort. Every conversation, every snack, and every small win helps move someone one step closer to lasting recovery.

If you've ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at EDCMT, here's a glimpse into a day in the life of one of our dietitians. 💙

Have questions about the role of a dietitian in eating disorder recovery? Leave them in the comments—we'd love to answer them.

Eating disorders don’t have an age limit.

While many people associate eating disorders with adolescence or young adulthood, they can develop—or re-emerge—at any stage of life. Major life transitions and stressful events can increase vulnerability, including menopause, retirement, injury, illness, the loss of a loved one, divorce, trauma, caregiving responsibilities, or other significant changes that affect how we relate to our bodies, food, and sense of control.

For some, an eating disorder may be appearing for the first time. For others, symptoms that seemed dormant for years can resurface during periods of stress or change.

If you’re struggling, know that you’re not “too old” to seek help, and recovery is not reserved for any one age group. Support is available, and healing is possible at every stage of life.

If you have questions about treatment options or where to start, we’re here to help.

Recovery doesn’t always fit neatly into a 9–5 schedule.

Our Evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient care but want to continue working, attending school, or managing other daytime responsibilities. Through a combination of therapeutic support, nutrition counseling, meal support, and connection with peers who understand the recovery journey, participants receive structured care while maintaining their daily routines.

Evening IOP may be a good fit for those stepping down from a higher level of care, those needing additional support in outpatient recovery, or anyone looking for a more intensive treatment option without disrupting work, school, or family commitments.

If you're wondering whether Evening IOP is the right fit for you or someone you care about, our team is here to help. Reach out to learn more about our programs and the admissions process.

What does it mean to have a ‘summer body’? Or to get ‘in shape’ for your wedding? When we think about these common phrases, we start to realize how arbitrary these “goals” are.

There is no one right shape, and there is no such thing as a summer body. You don’t need to change yourself for a season or a season of life.

Choosing the right type of treatment for an eating disorder is a deeply personal decision, and in today’s world of digital access and remote healthcare, there are more options than ever. While virtual care has increased accessibility — and sometimes it’s the only available option — it’s important to recognize the profound and lasting benefits that in-person treatment can offer.

As the only in-person option for a higher level of care in Montana, we want to highlight why in-person eating disorder treatment remains the gold standard, and how it can provide irreplaceable support, structure, and healing.

If you are contemplating eating disorder treatment and trying to decide what format is best for you, swipe through to read some reasons we might recommend in-person treatment.
