What if the spiritual connection youâre looking for is already here, right now? đ¸
It is, and it all starts with being present. Not just being present in the sense of putting your phone down, listening when someone is talking, or trying not to think about the 47 things on your to-do list. I mean being present as a spiritual practice.
If you want messages from your Spirit Guides, you have to be quiet enough to hear them. If you want to notice a sign or synchronicity, you have to be paying attention. We can't notice what we aren't present for.
We spend so much of our time thinking about what happened yesterday, worrying about what might happen tomorrow, replaying a conversation, planning the next one, or trying to figure out what comes next.
I've noticed in my own spiritual practice that the messages from Spirit rarely come when I'm busy checking things off my to-do list. They show up when I'm quiet, when I'm walking, journaling, spending time in nature, or simply doing nothing.
We practice so many things in our lives. We study to learn something new. We exercise to become stronger. We practice yoga, meditation, music, a sport, or a new language. We understand that if something is important to us, we need to spend time practicing it.
But how often do we actually practice being present? Not very often.
And yet, if being present is one of the foundations of a happy and connected life, shouldn't we practice it too? We don't have to set aside an hour every day to do it. We can practice while we're drinking our coffee, walking the dog, talking to someone we love, washing the dishes, or simply sitting outside.
I love the Buddhist teaching of simply doing what you are doing. If you are washing the dishes, wash the dishes. Feel the warm water. Notice the soap. Hear the water running. Be there. It sounds almost ridiculously simple, but there is something powerful about it.
When we become present, ordinary moments become magical.
That's one of the reasons I'm so excited about my upcoming Women's Wisdom Circle, The Art of Being Present, which begins this Tuesday, August 25th.
We'll use Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now as one of our inspirations, along with spiritual teachings, meditation, deep conversations, and simple practices that you can use in your everyday life.
