Last month, actor James Van der Beek passed away at the age of 48, after a battle with advanced stage colon cancer.

As of early 2026, colorectal (CRC) cancer is now the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in U.S. adults under 50, surpassing breast cancer. While mortality for other cancers declines, CRC deaths in younger adults have increased by ~1% annually since 2005.
