Grief Tip of the Week Series, Week 9

This ebb and flow is a natural part of grief. Just as the tide rises and falls, our feelings can change from one moment to the next. Healing doesn't mean the waves stop; it means learning to move through them with grace and support. đź’™

Cheryl Brimberry

Cheryl Brimberry, born March 31, 1946, in Houston, Texas, passed away on June 4, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, leaving behind many memories with the people who loved her.

She was the daughter of the late Adolphus Williw Watts and Geneva Wilkerson. Cheryl carried her family with her in everything she did and valued those close to her deeply.

Cheryl was a very caring person who had many friends. She was funny and free spirited, and she loved to talk and enjoy life. Being around her meant laughter, good conversation, and feeling welcomed. She had a way of making people feel comfortable and appreciated just by being herself.

She is survived by her loving husband, Baine Brimberry, her sons Darren Brimberry and Sean Brimberry and his wife Tiffany Brimberry, and her grandchildren Harper Brimberry and Zayden Brimberry, who meant so much to her.

She will be missed by her family and all who knew her, and she will always be remembered with love.

Grief Tip of the Week Series, Week 8
Honor your loved one in ways that feel meaningful to you—through traditions, memories, quiet moments, or acts of remembrance. There is no “right” way to remember someone you love.
Even the smallest acts of remembrance can bring comfort, connection, and healing. đź’™

Consider some of these heartfelt ideas: Light a candle on special dates, Listen to their favorite song, Visit a meaningful place, Plant flowers or a tree in their honor, Continue a tradition they loved or
Donate to a cause that mattered to them.

Public Service Anouncement.
Beware of fraudulent callers falsely claiming to be from Shannon Funeral Home who are requesting payments and threatening to cancel services. These are scams.
Please contact us directly at 941-746-2111 for any account concerns.

⛪ FUNERAL HOME SCAM ALERT 🚨 This egregious scam is being reported again in our area.

Scammers gather information about a deceased loved one from obituaries. They pretend to be from the funeral home selected by grieving family members and tell victims they must pay more money immediately, or the funeral will be canceled. They use a technique called "spoofing" to alter the caller ID, making calls appear to come from the funeral home.

If you receive one of these calls:
- HANG UP. Immediately contact the funeral home directly using a verified phone number - not the one provided in the scammer’s call, text, or email.
- DO NOT provide ANY form of payment.
- Contact BPD and report the crime: 941-932-9300.

Grief Tip of the Week Series, Week 7
During times of grief and uncertainty, simple routines can provide comfort, stability, and a sense of peace. Healing doesn't happen all at once.

Even small daily habits—morning coffee, a walk outside, quiet reflection, or connecting with loved ones—can help guide you forward one step at a time.

Herbert Wayne Carlton

Herbert Wayne Carlton, a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on May 20, 2026, at the age of 51, surrounded by the love of his family and friends at the family’s ranch.

Born on November 25, 1974, in the warm embrace of Lakeland, Florida, Herbert was a beacon of kindness and a man who embodied the values of dedication and love for both people and the land. The beloved son of Roy and Linda Carlton, Herbert was raised with strong family values and a commitment to serving others in his community.

He graduated from Lakeland Christian High School (1993), where he began to cultivate his strong work ethic that would help define his life. Pursuing his passion for mechanics, Herbert continued his education at Travis Technical Center (College) earning a Master ASE Mechanic certification in 1996.

Herbert dedicated 25 years of his life to Walt Disney World, where he worked as a Transportation and Maintenance Technician. Known for his extraordinary ability to fix anything, Herbert (Herb) was not just a skilled technician but a friend to many, always ready with a helping hand and a warm smile. Colleagues remember him as a man who could bring a sense of calm to any situation, and his work will continue to touch the lives of many.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Herb maintained the family ranch, tending to the land and livestock with a deep respect for nature and tradition. His gentle hands and nurturing spirit were evident in every corner of the ranch, where he spent countless hours fostering life and cultivating the land. Whether it was mending fences or caring for animals, Herb’s dedication to the ranch was an emblem of his character.

Herbert was married to the love of his life, Amy L. Carlton, for 23 beautiful years. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, filled with shared dreams and unwavering support. Together, they built a life enriched by love, laughter, and cherished memories. Herbert’s mother, Linda Carlton, and his sister, Karen L. Carlton (Scott), remain to cherish his memory, their hearts filled with the legacy of his kindness and generosity.

Herbert was predeceased by his father, (Alfred) Roy Carlton, whose influence and teachings were evident in Herbert’s every action. Their bond was a source of strength for Herb, guiding him through life with wisdom and grace.

As we remember Herbert Wayne Carlton, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love, a man who touched countless lives with his generosity and unassuming kindness. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and a profound sense of community.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date to honor Herb’s life and the indelible mark he left on all who knew him. Herbert’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know and love him. Rest in peace, dear Herbert, knowing you have left this world a better place.

We had the profound honor of participating in the service at Sarasota National Cemetery for our unclaimed veterans.
It is both humbling and deeply meaningful to stand with others in ensuring these American heroes receive the dignity, respect, and recognition they earned through their service to our nation. Though they passed without family to claim them, they are not forgotten. They are remembered, honored, and laid to rest with gratitude and reverence.
May we never forget the debt we owe to all who have worn the uniform.
