Florida's "Second Chance Act" mandates that all incoming 9th graders and first-time high school athletes in grades 10–12 must undergo an EKG heart screening before participating in sports. Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital and regional partners provide these critical cardiac athletic screenings to detect hidden conditions and prevent sudden cardiac arrest.

There are several scheduling options. Visit "Who We Play For" website to review the calendar and schedule online. https://www.whoweplayfor.org/

In addition, Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital and Sarasota Memorial Hospital jointly present a couple Cardiac Athletic Screening for Adolescents (CASA) events.

What the Screening Involves-
• Health & Family History Review: Screening includes assessing the athlete's history of chest pain, unexplained fainting, or sudden unexplained deaths in the family under age 50.
• Physical Exam: A check for heart murmurs, abnormal pulses, and standard blood pressure.
• Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG): A quick, non-invasive test tracing the heart's electrical activity.
