Some of the most meaningful moments in healthcare come from simple acts of kindness. We end the month by spotlighting Migena Soto from Manatee Memorial’s Food & Nutrition Services Team for creating a lasting connection with a patient during his stay in our Cardiac Unit. 💚 The patient shared that Migena’s kindness, positivity and daily interactions made the hospital stay feel easier and more comforting. By the time of his discharge, the bond they formed left a lasting impression on both.

Blake Olsen, Manager of the Cardiac Unit, says, “Migena showed that even as an ancillary team member, we are all responsible to ensure exceptional care and compassion. In my experience, small acts lead to big impressions and Migena showed this through the services she provided.”

Congratulations, Migena, and thank you for the impact you make every day! 🎉

A visit that brightens everyone’s day 🐾 One of the best parts of May is seeing our therapy dogs make their rounds through the hospital! Smiles were everywhere when the therapy dogs stop by each department. 🐶 Their visits may seem simple, but the impact they make is truly special, and they know it!

We’re grateful for the therapy dogs and their handlers for volunteering their time! We’re always looking to grow our Pet Therapy Program! If you’re interested, please fill out an application here: https://bit.ly/3Q5RnHh.

May is Stroke Awareness Month! 🎉 Manatee Memorial’s Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center brought stroke awareness directly to the hospital lobby by sharing educational resources and information with staff, patients and visitors about knowing the signs of stroke and responding fast.

👉 Did you know up to 80% of strokes are preventable through healthy lifestyle changes and managing risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, and cholesterol? Thank you to our Stroke Coordinator, Christina Krisak, RN, for taking the time to help educate and support our community during Stroke Awareness Month! 💚

⭐ Congratulations to Manatee ER at Palma for being named the 2025 Universal Health Services, Inc. - UHS Acute Care Division Freestanding Emergency Department (FED) of the Year, among 35 UHS FEDs nationwide! 🎉 This achievement is proved by the team’s exemplary results in areas like Combined Performance Improvement and Patient Experience throughout last year. To celebrate this, the Palma Sola staff gathered, recognizing the hard work behind this well-deserved distinction. And of course, no celebration is complete without cake! 🎂 This beautiful creation was made by Ed Rubert, Charge Nurse at Palma Sola, showing off a hidden talent outside of healthcare! We are proud of our Palma Sola staff and grateful for the impact they continue to make for our patients and community every day. 💚

📦 Special delivery for our smallest patients 🍼 This week we received our first delivery of children’s books donated by the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County. Families in our NICU receive the book titled “Otter’s Heart Family” to read with their babies and take home upon discharge, helping continue bonding, build self-esteem and develop emotional wellness. Manatee Memorial is one of only 45 hospitals participating in the Florida Perinatal Quality Collaborative (FPQC) program and the only hospital offering the book in both English and Spanish. 👏

The initiative comes through the Supporting Optimal Outcomes Through a Healing Environment (SOOTHE), which was launched by FPQC in October 2025. 📚 SOOTHE helps create a neurocreative environment in the NICU that supports healthy brain development for babies. Thank you to our NICU nurses for participating in this wonderful initiative! 💚
