When planning implant-supported removable dentures, there is a significant difference between basic treatment planning and optimal treatment planning.
In the first set of images, the surgeon performed proper ridge reduction to create a level, even foundation and used a surgical guide to achieve ideal implant positioning with consistent spacing. This approach provides a stable foundation for the final prosthesis, resulting in a more accurate fit, improved function, and greater long-term stability.
In the second set of images, the ridge was left uneven, with the center higher than the posterior areas, and the implants were placed with less ideal spacing. This compromises the support and stability of the prosthesis, increasing the likelihood of denture movement or rocking during function. An unstable prosthesis can also contribute to food impaction beneath the denture and accelerated wear of the attachment components, leading to more frequent maintenance.
Successful implant-supported removable dentures depend not only on the restorative process but also on proper surgical planning and ex*****on.
