The promise of recovery isn’t just sobriety. It’s connection.

In this episode, Piers reflects on one of the greatest gifts he’s found through recovery: the people.

“The friendships built in recovery are unlike anything you’ll find anywhere else. You’ll learn about psychology, the human heart, and yourself - but you’ll also find the best friends you’ve ever had.”

Recovery isn’t meant to be done alone.

One year. One day at a time.

Today we’re celebrating Steve and this incredible milestone - ONE YEAR in recovery. Recovery is built through courage, commitment, support, and the willingness to keep showing up, even on the hard days.

Milestones like this are powerful reminders that change is possible and hope is real. We are proud of you, Steve, and honored to be part of your journey.

To everyone who has trusted Rockland Recovery Group with their care - thank you for allowing us to be part of your path forward. Your words inspire hope for others who may still be searching for help.

Sometimes substance use begins with one simple thought:

“I just need to take the edge off.”

Stress, anxiety, grief, overwhelm, emotional exhaustion - alcohol and drugs can temporarily quiet discomfort. But over time, the nervous system can begin relying on substances to regulate emotions and escape distress.

Recovery is not just about removing substances. It’s about building the ability to tolerate discomfort without abandoning yourself in the process.

In this new blog, our own Micaela Malo, LCSW, LADC I, explores:
• The connection between stress and substance use
• Nervous system regulation
• Why emotional discomfort can feel intolerable
• ACT, mindfulness, and somatic approaches to healing
• How recovery helps build resilience instead of avoidance

As Memorial Day is upon us, it’s important to remember that holidays can feel emotionally overwhelming or triggering for many people in recovery. Having support, structure, and a plan in place can make all the difference.

Mental Health Awareness Month is about creating understanding, compassion, and hope.

For RRG Clinical Care Coordinator, Caitlin Thorp, it’s an opportunity to help people better understand what it’s really like to live with mental health challenges - or to support someone who does. Mental health struggles are not personal failures. They are barriers people are working through every single day.

By sharing stories, spreading awareness, and having honest conversations, we help remove stigma and remind people they are not alone.

$216,700 - and we couldn’t be prouder.

At Cardinal Cushing Centers’ 2026 Springtime Gala, the Rockland Recovery community came together and raised $216,700, more than doubling our goal and contributing more than a third of the evening’s $629,000 single-night total.

This starts with Eddie and Kelley McGrath, whose dedication to this cause sets the tone for everything we do, and it runs through our entire team, who put real work into making it happen.

To every sponsor who stood with us and helped push us past our goal: thank you. We could not have done this without you.

And to , thank you for the work you do every day, and for letting our community be part of it. We’re honored to stand with you.

The job doesn’t end at the end of the shift.

Boston firefighters carry what they’ve seen long after they go home - and they show up for their community even when they’re the ones who need support. Their continued partnership with Rockland Recovery and Cardinal Cushing Centers reflects something deeper than a donation: a commitment to taking care of each other.

Thank you for standing with us. We’re honored to stand with you.
