Finding connection after loss. ❤️

Grief can feel incredibly lonely, especially after losing a spouse. Sometimes, one of the greatest sources of comfort is connecting with others who truly understand the journey.

We’d like to share this wonderful resource for widows in Minnehaha County—a space created to bring widows together, offer support, share experiences, and remind one another that they don’t have to walk this journey alone.

If you or someone you know is a widow looking for connection and community, we encourage you to check out this group. Sometimes, finding someone who simply gets it can make all the difference. ❤️

You don’t have to walk this road alone.

Here is the link to the page. You will need to answer two questions before being accepted into the group. The goal of the group is to help others, but still maintain private conversations.

🍂 Hello, September. 🍂

September brings change. The air gets cooler, the days get shorter, and the leaves begin to turn. It’s a reminder that nothing stays the same forever.

For those who are grieving, change can be especially difficult.

School is back in full swing. Fall sports are underway. Football games, volleyball matches, activities, and familiar routines fill our calendars once again.

But sometimes, the hardest part isn't the busy schedule.

It's noticing who isn't there.

Maybe they were the one cheering from the stands, taking the first-day-of-school pictures, driving to practices, or making sure you never missed a game. Now, those familiar moments may feel a little different.

Just like the seasons change, our grief changes, too. Some days are easier, while others bring unexpected reminders of the person we miss.

That doesn't mean we're going backward.
It means we remember. ❤️

As September begins, give yourself permission to feel whatever this season brings.

Speak their name. Tell their stories. Share the memories. Keep their traditions alive.

Because even though they aren't here to make new memories with us, their place in our story never changes.

🍂 This September, may we remember that changing seasons don't mean leaving the past behind. They simply give us new ways to carry those we love with us.

There’s nothing that can prepare you for the enormous amount of grief that enters into your life when someone you love dies.

There’s no trial run that lets you know in advance what to expect.

Grief isn’t like the furniture you get from IKEA. It doesn't come with a manual. There’s no step-by-step instructions on how to put the shattered pieces of your life back together again.

It’s more like Dorothy dropping down in OZ. Suddenly, you find yourself right in the middle of unfamiliar territory and you have no choice but to start living there.
You start to search this new terrain in the hope that you’ll find others that are in the same or similar situation as you.

When you do find those people, it feels like only they can understand your sadness, confusion, and the language you speak.

Here’s the thing…you realize you're not alone in this strange new land.
Many others are grieving just like you.

You may be only days or weeks into your journey and you see so many others that are further along. And some of them are speaking of hope and even joy.

You wonder how you’ll ever stop crying, let alone feel joy in your life again.

But you cling onto hope, and sooner or later, that hope brings you to the place you need to be, and you enter that place standing on unsteady feet, and begin walking.
One small step at a time.

You’re unsure of where your grief will lead you.

But there are so many walking ahead of you, showing you the way.
And you realize in this strange new land…you’re not alone.
