This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate our incredible Infection Prevention Team for the important work they do every day to protect the health and safety of our patients, colleagues, and community!

While much of their work happens behind the scenes, their impact is felt throughout our hospital and far beyond our walls.

Our Infection Prevention professionals are constantly working to identify potential health risks, monitor infectious disease trends, educate our healthcare teams, and promote best practices that help prevent the spread of infections.

From monitoring seasonal illnesses like influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 to staying informed about emerging infectious diseases and community health concerns, this dedicated team helps ensure we are prepared to respond to evolving health risks.

Did You Know? 🧼

Preventing infections is everyone's responsibility! A few simple steps can make a big difference:

✅ Practice good hand hygiene. Washing your hands regularly is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs.

✅ Stay up to date on recommended vaccinations. Vaccines help protect individuals and communities against serious infectious diseases.

✅ Cover coughs and sneezes. Respiratory etiquette helps reduce the spread of illness.

✅ Stay home when you're sick. Taking precautions when experiencing symptoms helps protect those around you, especially vulnerable individuals.

✅ Be aware of community health risks. Infectious diseases can spread quickly, making education, early identification, and prevention essential.

Our Infection Prevention Team works closely with healthcare professionals, public health partners, and community resources to stay informed about infectious disease activity, recognize potential threats, and share important prevention strategies that help keep our hospital and community safe.

👏 To our amazing Infection Prevention Team: THANK YOU!

HCA Florida Brandon Hospital was proud to sponsor the FishHawk Fall Festival at Grace at Lithia, where families gathered to celebrate the season with hayrides, bounce houses, face painting and pumpkin patch fun!

Our teddy bear clinic was a favorite stop for young visitors! Children were given a teddy bear to care for. It was given a pretend X-ray. They learned about their bears’ injuries and worked with our care team to get them bandaged up. Each bear even received an official birth certificate!

Families also had the opportunity to explore a Brandon Hospital ambulance, meet our team and learn about the equipment and technology used to help care for our community.

Thank you to Grace at Lithia for a fun-filled day of community connection and fall festivities!

Our colleagues at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital put their best foot forward for breast cancer awareness!

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our team came together for the Pink in Action Walk to raise awareness, support those affected by breast cancer and highlight the importance of early detection.

Did you know?
• Approximately 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime.
• Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among women in the U.S.
• Regular screening mammograms can help detect breast cancer before symptoms appear, when treatment may be more successful.

Have you scheduled your mammogram? Regular screenings are an important part of breast health, and mammogram services are available at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital.

Some lives are brief, but the love they leave behind lasts forever.

This month, families gathered at Adam’s Garden at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital for our annual Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Ceremony. It was an evening filled with love, tears, reflection and the shared understanding that even the smallest lives leave an everlasting impact.

As candles were lit and precious babies’ names were spoken aloud, we honored the little ones whose lives ended far too soon but whose memories will forever live in the hearts of those who love them.

One of the most powerful moments of the evening came from John Jupp, a father who knows the unimaginable heartbreak of losing a child. John shared these meaningful words as he remembered his son, Aaron, who was lost to stillbirth. “It’s ok to hurt. Hope doesn’t eliminate the need to grieve. Being strong doesn’t mean pretending that our heart is not broken.”

His words were a beautiful reminder that grief and hope can exist together. That there is strength in allowing ourselves to mourn. And that the love a parent carries for their child does not end when a life is cut short.

Every name spoken represented a precious life. Every candle lit symbolized a love that will never fade. And every family gathered was reminded that their baby matters, their grief matters and they are not alone.

We are deeply grateful to the families who allowed us to share in these tender moments and to our compassionate Women's Services team for creating a meaningful space for remembrance, connection and healing.

To every family who has experienced pregnancy or infant loss, we honor your babies, we acknowledge your grief and we hold space for the love you will carry forever.

Their lives may have been brief, but their love stories will last a lifetime. 🕯️

Pain management is an important part of care and recovery.

At HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, we're expanding access to specialized pain care through our Graduate Medical Education program. Under the leadership of interventional pain medicine physician Dr. Nomen Azeem, pain medicine fellows provide inpatient consultations for patients experiencing acute, chronic and complex pain.

‘Pain is not one-size-fits-all and neither is its treatment,’ said Dr. Azeem. ‘Our focus is on identifying the source of a patient's pain and treating it as effectively and appropriately as possible.’

Our pain management team works alongside doctors and specialists at Brandon Hospital to evaluate pain, explore individualized treatment options and help patients plan for continued care after leaving the hospital.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we are proud to once again stand alongside the Breast Cancer Foundation of Central Florida in support of the incredible work they do for women and families across Central Florida and the Tampa Bay area.

With 1 in 8 women expected to develop breast cancer in their lifetime, the importance of awareness, early detection and community support cannot be overstated. We are honored to sponsor an organization that continues to expand its reach and make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many.

But this year's event also came with an extra special story from our own HCA Florida Lakeland Emergency family!

Last year, nurses Daniel and Amanda Lakes attended this event with a little secret and a whole lot of excitement. Just hours before arriving, they learned they were expecting their first baby!

Fast forward one year, and sweet baby Quinn, born June 16, is now part of their story. While Quinn enjoyed some quality time with Grandma, Mom and Dad returned for their second year supporting this incredible cause.

What started as a night celebrating hope, strength and community has now become a cherished family memory for Daniel and Amanda. And we couldn't be happier for them.

We're proud to support the Breast Cancer Foundation of Central Florida, and even prouder of the compassionate people who make up our HCA Florida Healthcare family.

We also offer a cancer support group for women here at Brandon Hospital. For more information on meeting dates, visit: https://bit.ly/4zs2zyS

It’s Pediatric Nurses Week, a time to acknowledge the special blend of skills it takes to care for our littlest patients and help keep their parents calm during an emergency.

Pediatric nurses at HCA Florida Brandon Hospital care for children of all ages, which requires unique expertise from understanding developmental stages to easing parents’ anxiety and communicating effectively with patients who can’t always express their needs.

Imagine caring for a 3-year-old who can’t tell you where it hurts. Our pediatric nurses must assess the child’s behavior, interpret their cries, comfort their parents and carefully calculate medication dosages, all while helping the child feel safe.

That’s why our pediatric nurses at Brandon Hospital deserve this special recognition. Thank you for the compassion, patience and expertise you bring to our youngest patients and their families every day!

For many people with blood cancer or other serious blood disorders, a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant can offer hope — and it often starts with a donor.

According to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, most patients who need a transplant don’t have a fully matched donor in their family and rely on NMDP (formerly Be The Match) to help find one. NMDP ℠ is a global nonprofit leader in cell therapy that helps save the lives of patients with blood cancers and disorders.

As part of HCA Healthcare, we're proud to support this life-saving work through the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network — one of the nation's leading providers of unrelated bone marrow donor transplants in the U.S. Each year, this extensive network helps connect tens of thousands of patients with the care they need.

After seeking care, Pala learned she had high-grade myelodysplastic syndrome, a condition that can progress to an aggressive blood cancer called acute leukemia. Her search for treatment options brought her to the Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital, where she met Dr. Zeina Al-Mansour and team.

“I am so grateful that I was able to find this place and this team, because they saved my life,” Pala said. “They gave me a future. I’ll be able to see my grandchildren grow up. I’ll be able to see them graduate. I am just so grateful.”

During Blood Cancer Awareness Month, Pala’s story reflects the specialized expertise and advanced treatment options available through our transplant and cellular therapy team. Our colleagues are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care with purpose and integrity.

This National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we’re celebrating the determination of patients— like Cierra Anderson — and the care teams who help make meaningful progress possible.

After experiencing an unexpected and severe stroke at just 25-years old, Cierra began her recovery journey by undergoing a month of intensive rehabilitation at HCA Florida Gainesville Hospital Inpatient Rehabilitation. The center, which opened to the community in May 2026, provides specialized inpatient rehabilitation to support patients working to regain function and independence after serious illness or injury.

With the support of her rehabilitation care team — and plenty of determination — Cierra made significant progress. Today, she is walking and talking again. She recently marked another milestone by ringing the Champion’s Bell and graduating from the rehabilitation program.

During National Rehabilitation Awareness Week, we celebrate Cierra’s progress and the dedicated rehabilitation colleagues who help patients work toward their individual recovery goals every day.

During Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Week, HCA Florida Healthcare recognizes our APPs and the important role they play across the HCA Healthcare network. From listening and assessing symptoms to helping guide treatment and follow-up care, APPs are there for patients every step of the way.

As highly trained clinicians with advanced degrees, APPs bring deep expertise to patient care. At HCA Healthcare, we’re committed to advancing that expertise by investing more than $50 million in education and professional development annually — because supporting our colleagues means supporting better outcomes for our patients.

To all our APPs, thank you for the compassionate care you provide every day.

At HCA Florida Healthcare, caring for one another is an important part of who we are. As part of HCA Healthcare, our colleagues have access to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund — a colleague-led 501(c)(3) that provides financial assistance during times of unexpected hardship.

In 2025, the Hope Fund provided more than $9.5 million in assistance to over 3,000 colleagues and their families, reflecting the compassion and generosity of our teams.

During Environmental Services (EVS) Week, we’re proud to recognize team members like Kwame Avery, who demonstrate how every role can be an opportunity to lead, grow and contribute to our mission. 💙

As a newly promoted EVS supervisor at 🏥 HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, Kwame helps create a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues while bringing a passion for empowering others to his work each day.

“My favorite part of my role is being a leader who has the ability to inspire, encourage and educate,” Kwame says. “What I appreciate about working for HCA Florida Healthcare is that it gives me the opportunity for continuous professional development and a steady, day-by-day approach to learning. It is an excellent foundation for a fulfilling career.”

That drive to inspire others extends beyond the hospital. Outside of work, Kwame enjoys writing inspirational books and mentoring children through his church.

After three and a half years with HCA Healthcare, Kwame continues to grow his career while making a difference for those around him — showing how EVS can be a place to serve others, develop as a leader and build a meaningful career.
