Nikki specializes in individual, couple, and family counseling with adolescents and adults, and has extensive experience and training in parenting and child-rearing matters, as well as treatment of various psychological disorders and children of divorced parents. She is trained in EMDR therapy to address PTSD, trauma symptoms, and symptoms of depression and anxiety, and offers both in-office and telehealth counseling services. She is also a Prepare-Enrich Facilitator for pre-marital couples and couple counseling. She served on the board of directors and treasurer for the Child Abuse Prevention and Elimination Foundation, Inc. The past 5 years she has been a co-therapist providing marriage intensives to couples at the Focus on the Family Marriage Institute at Hope Focused. When she’s not helping clients, Nikki enjoys running, Crossfit, and spending time with her husband, children, and dogs. They love reading, cooking, running, and hiking together as a family.

This is a great video for anyone interested in better understanding trauma, counseling, or EMDR. It explains how trauma can impact the brain and body and why people can feel stuck long after painful experiences. The book is also one I’ve recommended to numerous clients as a helpful resource for understanding trauma and healing.

A full weekend facilitating a marriage retreat together. I’m thankful for the opportunity to partner with my husband in this work and support couples who are choosing to invest in their relationship and strengthen their marriage.
Healthy marriages rarely happen by accident. They grow when couples are willing to slow down, have honest conversations, and do the work together.
It’s always encouraging to see the courage it takes for couples to show up and grow.

Huberman does a great job of describing how to use the physiological sigh technique to help regulate the vague nerve and HRV. This is something I recommend to my clients as a regular practice to help with anxiety and stress.

Dr. Andrew Huberman discusses how deliberate long exhales and the physiological sigh harness vagus-nerve control to raise heart-rate variability, rapidly cal...

It’s been a little quiet on here lately. Here's what is new with me.

I completed an 18-hour CE course:
Dr. Arielle Schwartz’s Therapeutic Yoga for Trauma Recovery Certificate
This training gave me additional tools for trauma work using somatic and movement-based approaches (including polyvagal-informed techniques) that can be integrated into therapy.

Just to clarify-because I don’t want to give the wrong impression:
I’m not a yoga instructor and I’m not starting yoga classes.

This is about using movement and breath work within therapy to help support regulation, safety, and trauma recovery in a clinical setting.
I’m grateful to keep learning and adding tools that can help clients heal.

I had a random thought: if I matched Winnie the Pooh characters to mental health conditions, who would be what?

Then I looked it up—none of these are official diagnoses. It’s just a fun “traits that can resemble real struggles” kind of list.

What would you change on this list? I want to hear your take.
