Donald A. "Donnie" Dumstorff

Donald A. “Donnie” Dumstorff, age 64, of Breese, passed away Monday, October 19, 2026, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. He was born June 16, 1962, in Breese, a son of the late Edward and Florence, nee Kreke, Dumstorff.

In addition to his parents, Donnie was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard (Brenda) Dumstorff, Sr. and Larry Dumstorff; and sister, Elaine Grapperhaus.

Donnie is survived by his sister, Joann (Anthony) Seiffert of Carlyle; brother-in-law, Gene (Ruth) Grapperhaus of Bedford, IN; nieces and nephews, Rich (Kim) Dumstorff, Jr., Tammy (Jim) Kreke, Gene (Kristen) Grapperhaus, Jr., Angie (Dean) Horner, Ryan (Natalie) Grapperhaus, Eric (Rachel) Seiffert, Amy (Jack) Lemay, Carrie (Michael) Evans, and Jamie (Tony) Loepker; 18 great-nieces and great-nephews; 5 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; his especially close friends, Nate (Kaitlyn) Bedard; and his entire Gridiron Grill family, who held a very special place in his heart.

Donnie was a graduate of Carlyle High School and worked at Community Link and St. Joseph’s Hospital before finding what he considered his favorite job at Gridiron Grill in Breese. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese and Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869.

Donnie was truly one of a kind and a familiar face to just about everyone in Breese. A professional social butterfly, he never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He could often be spotted cruising around town on his three-wheeled bicycle, making his rounds to the local watering holes, where he enjoyed a good 7 and 7 and, more importantly, the company of his many friends. Donnie had a way of making himself at home wherever he went, and his outgoing personality and love for people made him unforgettable.

The Gridiron Grill was much more than a workplace to Donnie; it was his second home, and the people there were his family. He took great pride in coaching the women's softball team and especially enjoyed Christmas caroling with his Gridiron family. Just how much Donnie meant to everyone there was evident each year on June 16, when the bar was affectionately renamed “Duck's Place” in honor of his birthday. It was a special tradition that reflected the love, laughter, and friendship Donnie shared with those around him.

Christmas was Donnie's absolute favorite time of year, so much so that he kept his Christmas tree up all year long. He loved the joy, togetherness, and traditions of the season and made it a point to attend as many family Christmas celebrations as he possibly could. For Donnie, there was no such thing as too much Christmas or too much time spent with family and friends.

Donnie lived life his own way, with a big personality, a friendly smile, and a genuine love for those around him. He may have been known for his three-wheeled bicycle, but he will be remembered most for his kind heart, his gift of friendship, and the countless smiles and memories he leaves behind.

Lorenz "Larry" D. Kolm

Lorenz “Larry” Kolm, of Belleville, passed away on October 8, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and compassion that will continue to touch countless lives.

Born on July 9, 1946, in Highland, Larry was the son of Lorenz and Florence (nee Schmidt) Kolm. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sisters, Linette Maedge and Ione Pence.

Larry spent his professional career working as a bookkeeper for the railroad, where he remained until his retirement. Beyond his career, he had a deep appreciation for history and the beauty of things from generations past. An avid antique dealer, Larry especially loved primitive antiques and farmhouse-style treasurers.

A man of faith and community, Larry was an active member of the United Church of Christ. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, particularly playing bingo, socializing and spending time among friends.

Perhaps one of Larry’s most meaningful legacies was his extraordinary dedication to animal welfare. With a compassionate heart and a commitment to helping those without a voice, Larry devoted countless hours to fundraising efforts benefiting animal rescue organizations throughout the region.

He was especially involved with Tree House Wildlife and Happy Tails Thrift Shop, an organization founded by sister, Ione. Over nine years, Happy Tails generated more than $141,000 in proceeds benefiting humane societies, animal shelters, spay and neuter programs, wildlife centers, and rescue organizations across several counties surrounding Edwardsville.

Behind those numbers were countless animals given a second chance, organizations strengthened by generosity, and communities made kinder through the efforts of people like Larry.

Larry understood that making a difference did not always require grand gestures. Sometimes it meant giving your time, sharing your talents, supporting a cause, or simply showing up when help was needed.

His life serves as a reminder that compassion is a legacy all its own. Larry will be deeply missed by his extended family, his many friends, and the animal welfare community to which he gave so much of himself. Though his presence will be missed, the kindness he shared and the good he accomplished will live on.

A life well lived. A heart generously given. A legacy that will continue through every life he helped save.

According to Larry’s wishes, no services will be held.
