During a recent Teletherapy session, Victoria had a blast racing boats with her mother while building her listening and spoken language skills.

First, Victoria followed instructions to make their little boats. Then she listened carefully to different sounds and guessed which toy belonged inside each boat—like hearing “moo” and choosing the cow. 🐄👂

Once their boats were ready, it was time to race! Using straws, Victoria and her mother blew their boats across the water while practicing functional words and phrases such as:

• blow
• fast / slow
• wet / dry
• put inside
• fold
• more water
• my boat
• your turn

Activities like this give families playful, meaningful ways to practice listening and language skills together—even through Teletherapy! 💙

🦖 Looking for a new back-to-school listening and spoken language game that kids ask to play all year long?

🦕 Dinosaur Hunt At School is an amusing following direction game with critical elements that get kids listening and engaged.

🦖 Kids love the delightful dinosaurs that challenge their auditory working memory, comprehension, and auditory processing speed.

🦕 The game uses descriptions that boost critical thinking, executive functioning, and communication skills.

🦖 Dinosaur Hunt At School is a flexible game. Use all the cards, sort out a smaller set, or simplify the directions. It is easy to level up or down the directions to meet a child’s needs and goals.

🦕 Dinosaurs Hunt At School is effective for children who are deaf and hard of hearing and struggle to recall longer sentences or often remember only part of the information that was said. A child’s capacity to listen, remember, and recall impacts their ability to follow complex instructions, understand detailed conversations, and learn new information.

🐘 Little Elephant's Listening Ears by Susan Hood is a favorite book for kids preparing for preschool. It's a fun way to talk and learn the importance of listening and following directions.

🐘 The little elephant has big ears but also has a big problem - he doesn't listen! When Mom tells him to bundle up for the weather outside, he puts on his favorite pair of shorts. When he's reminded not to blow too hard on his soup, he forgets and ends up with noodles everywhere.

🐘 This story features fun flaps, pull-tabs, touch-and-feel elements, and movable ears!

Neural Nugget: Babies who are talked to frequently know about 300 more words by age 2 than babies who hear fewer words, giving them a stronger foundation for language and learning.

One of the best ways to support healthy brain development is through serve-and-return interactions: the back-and-forth of talking, playing, making faces, and responding to your baby's sounds and cues. These everyday moments help build the brain, one interaction at a time.

Curious about what's happening inside your baby's brain? Explore our Baby Brain Map, an interactive guide that makes the science of early brain development easy to understand and put into practice: https://bit.ly/4w3j4jg

With grateful hearts, I'm sharing my Dad's obituary. While our family's hearts ache, we rejoice knowing he is now in the presence of his Savior, whom he faithfully served and loved throughout his life.

Mike and I are especially thankful that God allowed us to spend several precious days with Dad just before he entered heaven. Those moments are a gift we will always treasure.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed for our family and walked alongside us during this journey. Your love and support have meant more than words can express.

What's your favorite summer read? ☀️📚

If you care about the future of our children and the importance of human connection in an AI-driven world, Dr. Dana Suskind's newly released book, Human Raised: Nurturing Connection, Curiosity & Lifelong Learning in the Age of AI, deserves a spot on your summer reading list.

I've admired Dr. Dana Suskind for many years—not only for her brilliance, but for her unwavering passion for helping children reach their full potential. As a cochlear implant surgeon, researcher, and author, her work has inspired countless families and professionals, including me.

Congratulations on this important new book, Dana! Dana Suskind, M.D.
