Sometimes, postpartum support is sitting with a sleeping baby so that mom can get a hot, uninterrupted shower.

As a postpartum doula, I'm not a nanny or a housekeeper, but I'm here to mother the mother. Care, support and nurturing look different from visit to visit. Today, Tec and I helped around the house and then sat with this little snoozing nugget while Mom got a chance to shower, and Dad and big brother napped.

Do you need an extra pair of hands or a listening ear? Reach out! We aren't meant to do postpartum on our own.

Tension can make contractions feel more intense and can work against what your body is trying to do. When you consciously relax your jaw, shoulders, and hands, you are signaling the rest of your body to soften too. Think low, slow breaths and letting each wave pass instead of fighting it. It is a small shift that can make a big difference in how labor feels. If you want to learn more simple ways to support your body through labor, you can find more tips and resources on our page and website.

Take a moment to pause.
Breathe in slowly.
Breathe out gently.
Let the water remind you — everything moves, everything flows, everything returns to stillness. 🌿

Whether you’re preparing for birth, parenting through change, or simply moving through this season, remember: your breath is your anchor. You are safe to soften, safe to slow down, safe to be held. ✨

Inhale peace. Exhale release.

Today, my eldest, my biggest baby, Krowe, turns 20 🎉🎂🥳. I've been blessed with 20 years of watching him grow into the kind, thoughtful advocate that he is today. You have been tender hearted, strong, wise, and forever silly, and I'm so glad I was able to watch you become everything you are today.

When you were born, I didn't only step into motherhood, I was also pulled into a calling. Your birth being the one that pushed me into supporting others in their births. The things that I'd missed out on became lessons that became the foundation of the work I do to support others.

As we celebrate you today,, I also want to honor the ancestors who fought you into being, and I hope that they continue to guide you and hold you. Krowe, you are forever a reminder of the strength and love of our ancestors . Happy birthday kiddo🎂🎂🎂 thank you for rocking with me for these 20 crazy ass years 🙌🏾.

October is Hoodoo Heritage Month, a time to honor the traditions, wisdom, and resilience carried through our ancestral lines. Hoodoo is not only about practices and rituals, but about remembering that we are never alone. Our lives are woven with the strength of those who came before us, those who dreamed us into being.

For expectant parents, ancestor veneration can be especially powerful. Carrying new life is also carrying a lineage – every heartbeat and breath is connected to the ones who walked before. Simple acts like lighting a candle, speaking your ancestors’ names, or sitting quietly in gratitude can create a bridge between past, present, and future. In pregnancy, these practices become a way to root deeply, to feel guided, and to call in protection for both parent and child.

May this month be a reminder: we are vessels of love, guided by those who came before, walking with those yet to come. 🌿✨
