Hi! I have had several parents I work with express interest in attending a parent connection or support night!

This is intended for parents of children that have a diagnosis (e.g., autism, ADHD, PANDAS, Down syndrome, language delay, speech delay, behavior challenges, learning disability, etc.) BUT THIS IS ALSO open to anyone interested in participating 😊.

Who wants to come work with me?!? I have made it my mission to provide SLPs with jobs they love and the pay we know we deserve. When we give children feedback (especially in therapy) it needs to be SPECIFIC. If we only say “good job” after a child does something, it’s hard for them to know what they did a good job with. This makes it harder for them to replicate a good production, behavior, response, etc. instead we can say:
“Good job, I saw your tongue come out for your /th/ sound”
“Good job using your long sound”
“I love that you are waiting so patiently”
“You said “help” great asking”
“Great job cleaning up the game”

This also works outside of therapy. I would much rather have someone tell me “thanks for helping me put the dishes away” instead of just “thanks”. It’s more meaningful and I know what part of my action they appreciated.

Using toys as a school SLP may seem like a challenge…especially with older elementary aged student. I promise, with a little practice and creativity, you can make it happen. Your students, their engagement and their progress will thank you!

Speech therapy target: story grammar elements! Today we were just focusing on characters. I was also able to sneak in some phonemic awareness (rhyming) practice into this activity too!

Language processing skills can be so tricky! Here’s an example of how I work on describing using attributes using the EET framework as a visual and reference to help children with word retrieval.
