🎶 A whole alphabet of calming strategies, in a song he created himself!

Listen as our client shares part of his A–Z calming strategies song—from “K for Kick a ball” to “M for Make a silly face.”

This is Musical Mnemonics Training (MMT)® in action! This Neurologic Music Therapy® technique uses music to help us learn and remember information. Here, we’re putting that into practice with coping skills—giving him a song to help remember his options when big feelings come along. 💙

Does your child struggle with managing big feelings? Self-regulation is one of the most common goals we work on, and we’d love to help your child build skills they can use in everyday life.

🍂 We have openings this fall! Give us a call today to learn more about how music therapy could support your child.

Using slow-tempo music and Rhythmic Auditory Stimulation (RAS)®, music therapy influences the autonomic nervous system, helping lower heart rate as well as cortisol levels and blood pressure. During periods of distress, music can also help shift focus away from confusing environmental stimuli and redirect it to familiar, soothing sounds, which can lead to residents feeling a stronger sense of safety and comfort.

Lastly, when speech deteriorates, music therapy can allow clients to express their emotions safely through different actions such as humming, swaying, and facial expressions, reducing the frustration caused by language barriers.

When an individual struggles with neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, frequently forgetting important details of their daily lives could get really frustrating really fast.

Many studies have shown that music therapy has been able to stimulate memory recall and support individuals with Alzheimer’s to remember those memories, helping reduce stress and boost confidence.

This recall is able to happen because musical information is processed in both the left and right hemispheres of the brain, allowing the music to remain long after other long-term memories have been forgotten.
