Being in relationships that we feel understood, loved, and accepted in is a vital part of our well-being.
The way we build these relationships is through our ability to be attuned to each other. What is attunement and why is it important? Dr. Dan Siegel states that, “Attunement is being aware of and responding to the emotions of another person, and is the process by which we form close relationships. It is that essential component that allows us to feel close and connected to others.”
You may have been a part of a conversation before where it felt like someone was talking at you or past you rather than really engaging with you. During this season, whether you are at a company party, seeing family members you haven’t seen in a while, or getting together with a friend over coffee, try having a more attuned conversation. Curiosity, acceptance, and openness are at the heart of attunement and can help us all feel more connected to ourselves and those around us.
