Our Mission: To enhance the lives of those affected by bleeding disorders. An estimated 280,000 males and females live with Von Willebrand disease.

About Blood Disorders
A bleeding disorder is a genetic blood clotting deficiency caused by the absence or inactivity of an essential blood clotting protein, or “factor.” This deficiency causes the body to form unstable blood clots that allow bleeding to continue longer than normal. A person with a bleeding disorder can experience frequent and often spontaneous episodes of prolonged bleeding. The m

ost severe cases can have extensive bleeding into joints, muscles and vital organs, resulting in life-threatening emergencies and crippling long-term complications. Hemophilia and related bleeding disorders, such as Von Willebrand disease, are genetically inherited. However, one in three diagnosed cases of hemophilia results from a spontaneous genetic mutation where there is no family history of abnormal bleeding. Approximately 20,000 people in the United States are affected by Hemophilia, which occurs almost exclusively in males.

👗✨ PROJECT RUNWAY: Camp Freedom Edition!

This one was definitely a Camp Freedom highlight! 😂👏

For Project Runway, our campers worked in teams with a challenge: create TWO complete outfits and find a way to connect their designs to bleeding disorders. 🩸

But designing was only half the challenge…

Two team members had to put those creations ON and work the runway, while another teammate introduced the models and explained the meaning behind their designs. 🎤✨

And they absolutely went for it!

There was creativity, teamwork, lots of laughs, and maybe a few nerves when it came time to step onto that runway. It pushed some of our campers outside their comfort zones and that ended up being part of what made it so much fun.

And we can’t forget our judges! 😂👏 They were AMAZING and completely committed to their roles. The reactions, the commentary, the judging, they got into every bit of it and made the whole experience that much better!

Project Runway was definitely one for the Camp Freedom highlight reel!

🎨✨ Arts & Crafts at Camp Freedom! ✨🎨

Our campers had SO much fun getting creative during arts & crafts! There were plenty of smiles, lots of imagination, and some pretty awesome creations along the way. ❤️

A huge shoutout to Lily for doing such a fantastic job and making this activity so much fun for everyone! She’s also the talented one behind all of those BIG STICKS, each one is handmade by Lily! 🪵🎨 How cool is that?!

Thank you, Lily, for sharing your creativity, time, and talents with Camp Freedom. You helped make some very special memories!

💛 Gold Rush deserves a post ALL its own.

There’s just something different [and a little special] about Gold Rush at Camp Freedom. ✨

There’s gold to collect, games and challenges to earn even MORE, and of course… robbers roaming around ready to take what you’ve worked so hard for. 👀💰

There was running.
There was strategy.
There was some serious competition.
There was a whole lot of laughter!!

But after all that work to earn and protect their gold, one of the BEST parts had nothing to do with gold at all…

🥧 PIES. IN. THE. FACE. 😂

Safe to say, getting the chance to pie someone might have been the highlight of the whole thing!

Gold Rush is one of those Camp Freedom activities that creates the kind of memories we’ll be talking about long after camp is over. 🙌🏼

🪵🎉 TWO BIG STICKS. TWO HUGE MOMENTS.

We have to brag on Mason & Erin for a minute because earning a Big Stick at Camp Freedom is a BIG deal and the stories behind these two make it even bigger. ❤️

For Mason, this was only his second time ever infusing himself and his first time fishing for a vein. He was nervous, but stayed calm and confident having to stick both arms. That’s a pretty huge moment for someone still so new to self-infusion and one we were all excited to celebrate with him!

And then there was Erin.

She was nervous too. So nervous that for a minute, we weren’t sure she was going to go through with it.

And then… BAM. She just DID IT! 🎉

That’s what makes these Big Stick moments so special. It’s not just about successfully infusing it’s about the confidence, independence, and courage our kids are building along the way.

Sometimes being brave looks like being nervous and doing it anyway. Mason & Erin did exactly that. ❤️

Congratulations to our TWO newest Big Stick earners! We are SO proud of you both! 🪵🎉

🩸 Inside an Infusion at Camp Freedom

Our nurses spend time doing “Med Talk” with our campers, helping them better understand their bleeding disorder, their treatment, and the role they can play in their own care (or in their siblings).

But learning at camp doesn’t always look like sitting down for a lesson. 😉

Sometimes it’s a game.
Sometimes it’s a little friendly competition to see who can get their infusion supplies ready.
Sometimes it’s practicing an infusion and building confidence along the way.

It’s hands-on. It’s encouraging. And most importantly, it meets each camper right where they are.

Because the more our kids understand about their bleeding disorder and their care, the more confident they can become in taking ownership of their health. ❤️

A huge thank you to our incredible nurses for making education part of the Camp Freedom experience and making it FUN!

Camp Freedom days are FULL. ♥️

And we mean full.

One minute we’re in an Infusion or working through wellness together…

The next we’re racing across the field, strategizing through Gold Rush, jumping in the pool, or giving everything we’ve got in a relay. 😂

There’s learning.
There’s playing.
There’s connection.
There’s competition.
There are BIG accomplishments.

And there are a whole lot of moments happening in between that a camera can only catch a piece of.

This is Camp Freedom. 🫶

And we have SO much more to share.

We’re kicking off our Summer Memories series with one of our favorite adventures: Sleeping with the Sharks! 🦈💙

Our community had an unforgettable experience at the aquarium, where they got to touch jellyfish, enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour, and making memories on the playground. After a fun-filled evening, everyone gathered for a late-night snack before settling in for the night.

The best part? Sleeping right in the shark habitat with sharks swimming overhead! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that brought excitement, wonder, and smiles to everyone involved.

As we wrap up our Annual Meeting Moments & Memories series, we’re realizing just how incredible this summer has been for the THBDF community.

From education to camp adventures, family events, and countless moments of connection, we’ve had the privilege of watching our community come together in so many meaningful ways.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be looking back at each of these special events and sharing some of our favorite memories along the way including a special series dedicated to Camp Freedom’s 50th Anniversary, where campers made memories, built confidence, formed lifelong friendships, and simply got to be kids.

Thank you for being part of this amazing community. We can’t wait to relive this unforgettable summer with you. ❤️
