Substance use affects far more than physical health. It can impact routines, relationships, roles, and participation in everyday life.

Occupational therapy takes a holistic approach to recovery by helping individuals build healthy coping strategies, strengthen social supports, manage health needs, and reconnect with meaningful activities and roles.

Research shows that when people have opportunities to engage in meaningful daily life and community participation, they are more likely to sustain recovery and improve their overall quality of life.

Because lasting recovery starts with meaningful living 🤍

Health equity starts with access đź©·

Access to occupational therapy can be the difference between surviving and thriving. That's why we're committed to bringing highly skilled clinicians into nonprofit agencies serving our region's highest-need populations.

When we remove barriers to care, we create opportunities for greater independence, participation, and wellbeing for all. We believe health equity is more than recognizing disparities, but also ensuring people have access to the support they need to thrive.

"OT has been a game changer in my mental and physical health and I feel like I get better with each session. As the saying goes "it takes a village" and OT has been just that for me."

Healing and growth rarely happen alone. Having support that helps you work through daily challenges, build confidence, and celebrate progress along the way can make such a difference.

We’re thankful to be part of that village🩷

A fresh start isn’t just about leaving incarceration, it’s about having the tools and support to successfully return to everyday life.

Many justice-involved individuals experience challenges with executive functioning skills like planning, emotional regulation, attention, memory, and problem-solving. These skills impact everyday occupations like maintaining routines, managing appointments, finding employment, navigating transportation, and building healthy habits.

Occupational therapy helps people develop the practical life skills and routines that support long-term stability and community reintegration. Research has linked OT services for justice-involved populations to improved life skills, stronger social and work participation, and reduced recidivism.

Everyone deserves the opportunity, support, and skills needed to build a meaningful life in their community.

Meet Miranda Kroeger!

Miranda is a St. Louis native and WashU OT grad who works with adults in transitional housing, permanent supportive housing, and families in shelter settings.

Behind every session, Miranda’s work centers on meeting people where they are, supporting meaningful routines, and helping clients work toward goals that matter most to them.

When asked what she loves most about being an OT, she shared: I love the combination of creativity and evidenced-based practice! OT is all about meeting the individual or population where they are at and addressing the needs that they identify as a priority, which I love!

Stable housing takes more than a roof overhead. It takes routines, coping skills, community support, and the ability to manage daily life.

Occupational therapy helps individuals experiencing homelessness build the skills needed for lasting stability. From re-establishing daily routines and improving cognitive skills to supporting mental health and health management, OT takes a holistic, client-centered approach that promotes independence and resilience.

Research shows that individuals experiencing homelessness who receive occupational therapy services are housed at greater rates and stay housed longer. By addressing life skills, community integration, and overall wellbeing, OT helps create pathways toward long-term stability and health.

The people behind the impact đź’—đź’ś

This month we’ve celebrated occupational therapy, but the heart of it has always been the people showing up every day with compassion, creativity, and commitment.

Behind every session is a therapist building trust, problem-solving in real time, and advocating for individuals to live fuller, more independent lives.

We're so grateful for a team that leads with purpose and makes meaningful impact in every space they enter!
